PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • After complaining to RBS in May last year my complaint was 'being investigated' for about four months and then was on hold due to the legal review.

On 22nd July this year the FOS wrote to me and said that RBS would settle. Great news after one year.

However, here we are almost in November and not a bean from RBS but I am 'in the queue for payment' according to their PPI team (I have been in this queue for 4 weeks now). It is now 14 weeks since that FOS offer letter yet RBS say they only heard that from the FOS that I had accepted on 15th September, whereas the FOS say it was very early August so let's say that RBS have had approx 12 weeks to pay me what they owe.

Is it worth me complaining again to the FOS, is there a fastrack contact I can speak to at RBS or shall I just wait until thhey decide to pay up?

    Your advice is greatly appreciated!!

    Subject: PPI Claim Payment Date?
    Importance: High

    Can somebody please help me!!??

I received the attached letter dated 8th September upholding a PPI claim i made against some loan accounts with yourselves.

I have to date made 4 telephone calls to your 'dedicated' PPi help line and on each occasion it has taken me at least 45 minutes to get through only for someone on the other end to fob me off with various excuses ('Everyone in the settlement department has left for the day', 'Our computer systems are down at the moment', 'payments have been held up because our calculation system is down' etc.) as to why they cannot tell me when I will be receiving my money and how.

I have been told payment dates ranging from 28 days from date on letter to 'sometime before the end of the year'.

I understand that your department is dealing with a heavy workload at the moment but is it too much to ask to get a straight answer? If it is going to be 4/5 months just say it is going to be that long instead of getting people hopes up. I along with most people I know are living with a tight budget and to have a large amount of money owed to you for such a long time when it would make a huge difference to your quality of life is at times soul distroying.

So with that said could you please look into my case and give me an idea of when I will receive payment and how? I am not looking to get special treatment, just accurate information!

    Thanking you in anticipation.

Why can they not just tell me when I am likely to get payment. I put my mobile number on the e-mail surely it would be easier to call me rather than send me a letter. I don't want another fob off letter, I want my money:eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad: and I am now going to reply to this e-mail and tell them that for what good it will do (might make me feel a bit better:rotfl:)

    Rant Over:)

OK. I'll wait until I get the refund from the 2 loans then add them together ;)

  • My OH's claim at BoS had 16 week deadline of 24th. We gave it a couple of days and chased this morning.

Got through straight away, spoke to a nice woman who advised that it had been upheld and a letter sent on 5th October. Obviously we hadn't received it. She is resending it today.

£3900. Sounds about right but will wait for the letter with calcs in.

It is bizarre how they all differ, with NRAM we had a detailed breakdown with re-worked outstanding loan amount and form to sign. Lombard (RBS) we had an offer with no mention of the restructured loan details and a form to sign. With BoS we don't even have to sign anything!

Now just the wait for the refund cheque, and then the last one - Natwest (RBS) decision due 14th December.

It is quite surprising, reading the posts on here as I do daily, that so many letters seem to be going astray!

Take heart all readers - the journey does end eventually.

thanks amersall-will try to post figures later when I can think how to shorten them! I am lucky in that my complaint has been dealt with in such a short time compared to others-I only complained at the beginning of August:) It's complicated to understand (for me) because it involves several loans of which only 2 had ppi and I am still paying for a current loan-though no mention of restructuring it.
Their offer is just over £8,000 which is not to be sneezed at but their calculation tables are not in chronological order so methinks I will need a few hours to make sense of them:o

As I said in earlier post, Barclays referred to earlier letter in which they supposedly upheld my complaint.NOT RECEIVED I saw another poster had said exactly the same thing yesterday. They must be in a rush to clear backlog! They have not given me a date by which they will pay money into my current account. Though that probably wont happen any time soon.

How helpful are Barclays at answering phonecalls about their offers?? Guess I will just have to find that out:(

Checked my balance at cash machine while out shopping and money has been put in account!:j
Not bad really only put complaint in early August- about 11 weeks in all from start to finish! still going to check their calculations though
Many thanks to advice and support from this site:beer:
Phoning this afternoon to complain about my additions overdraft payment going back several years. Let's hope Barclays are as quick to refund this :)
Once again thanks to those on this forum who are prepared to give the time to share their knowledge and experience
Well done to all other winners and good luck to those still waiting

Did they actually give you 8% on this payment? wouldnt think it would be more than a couple of pence :D shouldnt make a difference with the tax on that ;)

Would like to say thank you to everyone on here for giving me the courage to reclaim my ppi. I started back in July after reading all the succeses. I was self employed when i borrowed on my CC and took out loans and never thought about PPI. Until learning that I couldn't have claimed. I completed my questionnaire in july and sent it to LLoyds CC, M&S CC and Lloyds Loans.

I had offers from them all back in sept.

    M&S = £4500
    Lloyds CC = £6500
    Lloyds Loans* = £7500

*They back dated the PPI on every single loan I have.

I received the BACs from M&S on Monday and have just received the Cheque for Lloyds CC. Just awaiting on Lloyds loan.

I wouldn't to say thank you to you all, and if there is anyone reading this that feels they have been missold, it takes 10 mins to do the for and 50p for a stamp.

    Thanks again.

  • Have just returned from work to find a letter from HSBC stating my claim has been upheld and an offer of 19,222.86 made. They had taken two other previous loans into consideration although I had not addressed these in my original complaint. It is stated that my redress will be repaid within 4 weeks of receiving my acceptance. My original complaint was made at the end of July. To say I am in shock is an understatement. I would like to say an especially huge 'thank you to Smitchy' who responded to my first post and gave me the 'ammunition' and confidence to go forward however my thanks to everyone whose posts to others have helped me grow 'wiser.' Good luck to all with claims.
