  • Morning everyone
I finally got my letter from RBS this morning after submitting my claim in July 2010 and I have been successful! Their offer is for £2600 which is way more than I originally thought I would get. Of course there is no apology of admission of any mis-selling on their behalf just an offer of " goodwill ". Strange to make a goodwill offer but be following FSA guidelines on mis-selling payouts!!

I have sent the acceptance away recorded delivery and they will endeavor to pay this to my account in 28 working days, which I dont think is likely for a minute but the win is the important thing.

Thank you everyone for your support and advice and thank you Martin as I would never have done this without this website.

Congrats to all winners today xx

Thrilled to bits for you. Postman already been today and not heard anything yet but I hope I'm not far behind you. Have a great Christmas. Please come back and let us know when you actually receive your money.
  • Well after a 10 month battle, a nice letter from RBS dropped through my door this morning with an offer for £2,700. Happy days!

What can I say, its been a frustrating 10 months, but for the price of a few stamps and bit of patience, im now £2,700 richer! Thanks to all the advice of everyone on this site, right from Martin Lewis to each individual poster who has helped along the way.

Right, which part of the world shall i book my next holiday to......
  • I forgot to say my letter was dated 29th August. Just such a relief to know I have been successful - my husband got word today he is being made permanent in his job after being temp for 2 years. A glass of vino tonight methinks.
    Fingers crossed for you x

    :T
me too jjww it says on hsbc website we should have heard by the 4th sept if not give it a few days, then give them a call on the tel number on your upheld letter:T

This is against FOS/FSA protocol for refunds

They can only place money on the card if it is for outstanding arrears - other than that you can insist on it going to your bank account/cheque!

    Hi,

not all banks take the interest off, leaving you to pay the tax yourself, but some tax it at source

    The figures look quite odd

What were the actual loan amounts, how long ago and over what term (in months)?

    Hi

I cant remember off the top of my head, although loan one was consolidated with loan two.

I'm not at home until next week, I'll see about digging out the paperwork.

    Cheers

As an act of goodwill and without any admission of liabilty by the way, is what Natwest said!!

Are they right to tax me?

    Congratulations on your win

Unfortunately, most interest is taxable - some banks are deducting it from the payment, others are paying gross but telling people they need to inform the tax office.

Just to add that it is only the 8% interest element that is taxable :money:

If the tax isn't deducted at source you will be required to submit a tax return with the amount of interest received.

If you are a basic rate tax payer, you will owe the revenue 20% of whatever you receive (in terms of the 8% figure only), so best to work it out and put it aside.

I can see HMRC having a field day with this and issuing fines to anyone that doesn't volunteer it on their tax return.

I would expect them to request details of all Gross payments made from the banks as this will bring in huge, much needed revenue for the Government.
