  • Hi,

So I sent the Halifax a letter on 1/10/2007 got a response back very quickly saying they will be looking into it a few of these letters come and go. Then the final response arrives, stating because I signed the PPI form (which they made me sign or else no loan) and it was suitable for my needs. Even though I had funds to cover this elsewhere. They also breached section 8.3 of the banking code making the PPI a condition of taking the loan. So I have now gone to the FSO any advice from others who have had this problem with the Halifax or others.

    Thanks in advance
  • Hi, good news this morning, with reference to PPI mis-selling LTSB, as a 'gesture of good will', are prepared to offer me a refund of £1600 plus interest accrued, but they want to credit the £1600 to my loan account. This means the monthly instalment on my loan will remain the same, but the balance and term of the loan will be reduced.

I would prefer the £1600 plus interest be paid into my current LTSB current account instead of the loan account. Can anyone advise me if I am within my rights to ask for this ?

    Many thanks.

    Mik.

    • What were you reclaiming: Personal Loan
    • Who was the provider: Alliance + Leicester
    • How much did you get back: £580
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: I wrote the 1st letter saying that I wasn`t happy that I had the Protection and that they were pushy when I took out the loan and that I had protection elsewhere, waited 8 weeks and received a reply that they were still looking into it and needed more time. I sent another letter saying that I was going to go to the FOS if I did not get a satisfactory reply, they sent me another letter saying they could not deal with the claim and needed still more time. Got a letter a couple of days later offering £580 without predjudice. I accepted :)

A very BIG thank you Martin, not only have I recovered over £800 in bank charges, but thanks to your article regarding PPI (through your weekly email) the Abbey have now offered me a £1200 refund on a loan I had with them.
    Merry Xmas:beer:

  • I have just had my first letter back from Lloyds today about reclaiming my PPI.

I pay a shocking £113 a month on my PPI, and I know from Martin that I can get the same cover from Ant insurance for £36!!!!!!

They have basically send me a letter back which is a transcript of my conversation with the agent, and told me to poke it! I called them up and they have said that as I agreed to it, there is nothing they can do. They said that the agent said there was insufficient insurance, I could have swore he said sufficient....my word against a large Lloyds one

What are you supposed to do next? They will let me refinance the loan, with the same APR, same number of remaining months etc But I don't know what to do...They don't tell you they are definately recording you, just says maybe recording which I think is naughty, but then am I just being picky?

Has anyone actually got somewhere after this situation?

I'm in the same situation with the Halifax and WILL be taking this to Court. They duped me, they are refusing to accept responsibility for their mis-selling and I'll be seeing them in Court.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

    well good luck to you!!

Please let us know how you get on....
Mine is a little tricky as they are both out of the 6 year time frame and am trying to do this myself, but will go to a no win no fee agent if i have to.

It appears that the financial difficulty i have run into was almost a direct result of being stung for 2.5k twice in 12 months!!

Keeping everything crossed and will keep all of you good people posted

  • I went to the Financial Ombudsman, in October about PPI.they found in my favour beg. of December, I should not have been sold it, due to reaching 65 before I took it out! It hasn't taken too long by the F.O.Am now awaiting a cheque, FANTASTIC!!
Success, thankyou FOR YOUR HELP MARTIN .Tatton ladyxx
