PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

 Well Done on all the successes

Hi folks
My other half managed to successfully do a PPI claim with Egg for a loan back in 2004. We sent the questionnaire off end of April, got an acknowledgement etc, chased after 8 weeks, got a we need more time letter just under 2 weeks ago and a settlement cheque today for £5254.85 which includes 8% interest
We are thrilled to bits with this. Thanks very much Martin's MSE!! We managed to claim back PPI with an HSBC loan back in 2009 and got just over £6000 back with that one.
Now we await Lloyds TSB but apparently we have to wait until end of August now for that one. Will post news from that when we get it...
Well done on your success:T Congratulations!
Good luck with LTSB.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
One thing that confuses me about the accompanying letter for my cheque. The third par says: "Please be aware that this letter is for information purposes onely. As you have made a previous successful claim on your policy which is greater than the total refund due amount, in line with FSA guidelines no further redress is payable."
It makes no sense to me! I never claimed on the policy as I didn't know it existed?

I would question them on this in case you have been given the wrong letter, which seems to be the case, tell them its the first you have known about making a claim, as its only now you realised you had it which is another reason why you made a reclaim, even though its addressed to you.
Do check, good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
I read through the advice on this site regarding reclaiming PPI and felt I had a good case. On submitting an internet based loan application I was contacted by phone to be asked why I hadn't applied for PPI, what funds did I have in place to cover my loan should I lose my job or be long term sick and was then told I could only have the loan if I took out PPI. My claim was on the basis I didn't need or want the PPI and was not advised I could source this protection myself. I completed the form from this site and NRAM have upheld my case and are refunding all premiums totalling £1052 + interest of £222. A brilliant result. Thanks:j
Brilliant result Alison, well done and Congratulations!:T:beer::jThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Send the whole bloody lot to the FOS as Di says
How absolute dare they talk to your sister like that.
Remember they are all back tracking now like cornered rats, shame on them all
Listen and do as the people on this site advise you to and these morons will be sorted out
Keep us informed
I agree totally!
How dare they !!
Send it to the FOS without further delay.
It may take a while - but interest will acrue all the time your sister is awaiting the payout that she will surely receive.
MAKE THEM PAY THE MAXIMUM POSSIBLE

Yet another example of the banks cavalier and cynical attitude to their customers.
By making massive provision for PPI claims they have tacitly admitted it was missold.
The recent explosion in claims has forced them into a damage limitation exercise.
Two recent examples
1 "HSBC!!! made me an offer! They said they are only going back 6 years and if I had any statements or proof this account went on longer they would look at it!! But alas I havent "
I can't believe that the bank don't have a record of when the account started in the ninities when they can produce forms to show we alledgedly ticked to approve ppi
2 "they said if they are to investigate more they would need proof that i wasnt paying national insurance payments back (waiting to hear back my hm revenue and customs regards this) because i was a full time student "
If the bank has an application form with full time student on it and issued a credit card on it why should you have to prove you weren't paying a stamp.
I am sure that the banks are playing the "Fear Factor" and epect us not to fight back, if we don't , they've won.
I currently have four ongoing claims two going back thirty odd years,
one 12 years andthe latest seven years.
Just think of how much money the banks stand to save by only offering me the last six years.
If I get a offer saying they are only going back 6 years and if I had any statements or proof this account went on longer they would look at it.
I wonder what response I would get from the following reply
" thank you for your offer of xxxx and the offer to consider evidence of the account having existed prior to that time. Your offer suggests that you have accepted the PPI was missold and may well have been in existance prior to the six years you are proposing . I note this cannot be your final offer and as such I cannot refer it to the FOS.
In order to comply with your request to provide proof that the account existed prior to the period you are refunding,I respectfully request that you provide me with a copy me of our original agreement as its the only legal justification you have had for deducting the monies from my account that you have offered to refund.
The refusal to comply with this request will result in me referring it to the FOS
Yours etc
I welcome your thoughts
ps. "Fear Factor"
False
Evidence
Appearing
Real
Don't let your thoughts of failure put you off

I was told that as my account is closed they couldn't find the credit agreement but the insurance would have only been added to the account upon my acceptance (I don't think so!!) I also stated that I wasn't asked about any pre-existing medical conditions or told that the PPI was optional.
I'll be sending this to the FOS now. Thanks again for your help, it is really good of you to reply.:)0 -
THIS (CLICK!) post from Chalfont Girl shows she had a payout from them inside of 6 weeks back near the end of June
Reading between the lines it looks like she had the payout only a few weeks after contacting Aviva, as she had been through the mill with Welcome and FOS prior to contacting them directly
Have you had the "15 working days" letter from Aviva? - I had this stating they would give a definitive response in 15 WD, that was about 2 weeks ago
(I originally contacted Welcome back at the beginning of march and it took them 3 months just to come back and essentialy say "not us guv, talk to the insurer!"

Hi and welcome
Shame you didn't come across this site first, you could have done this where no charge will be made with just a matter of completing a questionnaire to make a reclaim, however wishing you luck anyway and if you do have any further reclaims, please ask for help on this site, and all the info and guidance pages are here as well.;)
I have not heard of any of them to be honest, not sure if anyone else has, but you could ring the Claims Regulations company (MOJ) to check these out, explain your predicament with the confusion, not unless your case have been passed on because the first one could not deal with it is the only thing I can think of, but play it save and contact the as stated in working hours, good luck and please let us know how you get on.
Contact of Claims Regulation here.
