PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi
Thank you for that I managed to find our Egg account no last week so have sent my questionnaire back in the post, fingers crossed, we havent't heard anything yet.;)
Can anybody please help me with this:
We took out a loan with Central trust as the broker at the end of 2005 the loan was with Firstplus, we had £10,000 of ppi added at the start of the loan. We then topped the Firstplus loan up in 2006 and had another £20,000 of ppi added to the loan.
At the end of May 11 we put a claim in for missold ppi with Central trust and Firstplus. Yesterday we received a final offer from Central trust which was for £2177.78 and that figure included all interest. I called the complaint handler yesterday and asked how he came to that figure: he told me because my husband had answered no to the question over the telephone, do you have any other existing arrangements, they took it that my husband had no company benefits. When he had got all the benefits the question had not been made clear to my husband what it ment. Also when my husband had been asked a queation about life cover he said yes for himself and no for me, when we both did have cover and terminal illness benefit. This is their excuse for the low offer.
I called the FOS yesterday for advice and they have now taken on my case which i was told could take up to a year to resolve. Do you think I have done the correct thing not accepting the offer and do you think it was a good offer from Central Trust?
You want the ppi back that you have paid to date with interest, FOS will be longer, but this is a win.
Also, find out if they are paying both ppi refunds, as one was rolled into the other.0 -
Maybe you could check first if that was the final decision, and/or ask if you have the opportunity to give further info if required, but if the final decision and you do not accept it, then its the case of making the complaint to the FOS.
So basically the decision is yours and you must do what you feel is right for you, but even so there shouldn't be any harm in asking if they can provide the evidence to you, tell them your still deciding on the decision to accept and ask if they can provide the info to you if you want to.
Thanks Di
Yes it was there final decision, I will keep you posted how we get on.0 -

Total time to date is 7 weeks, thanks to the great advice on here and thank Di and Amersall we have today agreed to accept their offer, so here it is
Natwest claimed back £2.269.85 plus consolidated interest (what is that)
took one template letter and one e-mail as advised by Di (thank you)
monies will be paid into our account within 28 days,,,
Thanks to this board we have something back that we never thought was possible.0 -
True to their word letter arrived today from RBS for 2 NatWest loans. They have upheld my complaint on both and total refund, including all PPI payments, plus associated interest and 8% on total from 8th May to 22nd June for delay in dealing with it etc, making a total of £9,676.26. Have already accepted a refund of nearly £700 for credit card from them. They have deducted tax at 20% from the interest payments. They are also restructuring my loan to remove the PPI making payments, nearly £100 less a month.
I am so thrilled - cannot believe it. This amount will clear my remaining 2 credit cards and hopefully, with the refunds to come from 3 Barclays complaints which are now guaranteed I will be able to clear outstanding loan balances.0 -

You have done the right thing, trust me.

Thank you for giving me the confidence. The loan was paid up in 2007, I have separate claims in with Central trust for the £10,000 ppi added at the start of the first loan and firstplus for the £21,000 ppi added at the beginning of the top up loan. Started with the FOS for the central trust loan yesterday and still waiting to hear from firstplus regarding my complaint i am only four weeks in with that one.
Keep your fingers crossed for me:p0 -
