I have just received a letter from Barclays repaying me the full amount plus interest from a loan I took out just over five years ago. Absolutely brilliant - and all down to Money Saving Expert's proforma letters.
Thank you! My loan was for around £3300, but with the PPI cost which was lumped onto the loan, it all cost well over £4000.
Today I just received £1259 back. Considering I sent the letter at the start of January (and it's now only the 10th of February) I think they have turned everything round really quickly. They also sent two letters to let me know it was all being investigated - great communications. It's deeply unusual for me to praise Barclays, but they've handled my case really well and consequently retained me as a customer.
What spurred me to investigate the loan insurance mis-selling was Claims Advisory Group (who cold called and hassled and rang me over and over and wanted a 39% cut of any amount claimed back, really persistent and horrible) and I'm so glad I came onto this website which pursuaded me that I was just as capable of filing the claim/sending a letter myself.
THANK YOU!0 -

Hello, I'm new to MSE and must say this is a great website.
I am thinking about claiming my PPI back from HSBC from two policies which started in 2006. Although I had a very good package from my employer (6 months full sick pay, PHI, life assurance, death in service benefit and even personal injury cover), HSBC advised taking out further life insurance, plus repayment and income protection insurance policies, to cover mortgage payments plus living expenses. At the time I was single with no dependents therefore if I lost my job or became long term ill, I would have sold the house and moved home to my family. All this was discussed with the HSBC financial adviser at the same time as my mortgage application was going through. I recall her saying after 6 months I would have a problem. I was also unaware that I could shop around for other products, rather than taking what the adviser was saying. No doubt there would have been cheaper products than HSBC's - all this was costing over £100 per month on top of my mortgage payment of around £800.
Any views on this would be welcome. I do feel strongly that they were just pushing products regardless of my situation and advised against my best interests, but this doesn't appear on Martin's list of suggested reasons. Also I'm not sure what "PPI" covers - would it cover life insurance linked to the mortgage value, as well as income and repayment protection?
Thanks guys0 -

Hi and welcome
PPI can cover for Sickness/Unemployment and mostly life as well but life cover is not always involved.
I would check the policy for more details as these can vary and not all are the same, if you do not have these, then the company should supply these free of charge to you on request.
However, as you felt pressurised and were protected from work, and you feel it was not sold in your best interest you can try to make a reclaim.
For this all you need to do is complete the reclaiming questionnaire, as on stage one on link below, send it to the head office or complaints dept if they have one of these/of whom sold you the policy.
Remember to keep copies of everything as well in case you need to refer back to this again at some point.
They normally have 8 weeks, but may ask for more time, but they should keep you informed of the progress of your complaint.

Hi, I was mis-sold PPI with Clydesdale bank, We wrote to them but they said no to paying back the PPI. We then wrote to the ombudsman who ruled in our favour last October, They said it would take 12 weeks for Clydesdale to send us an offer. When 12 weeks went by we called clydesdale and asked when an offer would be made, The woman we spoke to said they did not know and could not give any indication of when an offer would be made. I then asked to speak with her manager, Said said he was in a meeting... the old ones are the best...
anyway, I emailed the ombudsman who was in charge of our case, He called clydesdale. The ombudsman wrote back and advised he was also unable to obtain a settelment date..
What else can I do as this seams to be taking ages.0 -

Hi All,
I have recently had my claim for PPI upheld by Blackhorse for a personal loan in 2006. I am due my redress in the next week or so but to be honest I'm still not sure how much I am due. Can anyone help????
My loan was for £3000 over 36 months but I settled the loan after 10 repayments. I have been told that I paid £21 per month toward the insurance and would also receive 8% interest on top of that.
Can anyone tell me if my settlement would have included PPI as I am unsure. This was a single premium insurance so I am assuming I would have paid money towards this in my settlement.
Thanks in advance!!! :-)0
