  • :jJust to let every one know that i downloaded the form last july to reclaim the ppi from a bank loan i took out 7 years ago. The loan had been cleared for nearly 2 years, but i still had all the paperwork. i sent the letter off to the Clydesdale Bank. They sent me a few letters saying they are dealing with my complaint..just before christmas i got a letter saynig that they were upholding my complaint and i would get £3,500 plus 8% interest. i could not believe that for what only took me a couple of hours research that i ended up with just over £5,000 before christmas.

so thanks Martin and your team.:T
  • It took a year of correspondence and then referral to the Financial Ombudsman but in August 2010 Marbles Visa (HFC Bank) admitted they had mis-sold PPI on my husband's visa and offered compensation of just under £1,500

However, we are still awaiting payment.

When we first chased it up (in late September) the FO told us that although HFC had made the offer they were refusing to pay this claim (and others claims) but that they (the FO) were persuing payments for all. Then, a month later we were told payment had not been made because Marbles Visa was sold by HFC to HBOS. HFC had calculated the refund but had passed it to HBOS to pay.
Whenever the Ombudsman chases HBOS they say they have written to us to tell us how and when they will refund us (NOTHING receieved at all by us from them) or that the payment is on it's way to us.
We were assured by the Ombudsman on Monday that HBOS had 'made the payment and it will be in your account by Wednesday'. Nothing has turned up although I didn't expect it to - how would they know our bank account details? Unless they are just planning to refund the visa account.

Any suggestions? I really thought that if the Ombudsman was on the case the banks would pay up but in this case they are totally stalling and the FO seem powerless to do anything apart from just chasing them up by telephone every week.

    Hi there

First of all well done on your success.

Wonder if anyone has the contact details of the Chief Executive officer (CEO) for you.
Maybe the FOS will have hold of these.

Hope your not waiting too long, and with them not having details of your bank account, maybe its like you said going to be refunded on the visa account, could you contact the main account dept to check on how your supposed to be getting your money perhaps?

    Good luck, keep at them.;)

  • RBS have today offered us just over £500 for mis-sold PPI on a loan. Yippee!!! :j
I wonder if I could ask for some advice please, I have a credit card with Tesco which I have had for a number of years, it was only when I reached my limit that I realised I wasn't paying anything off each month ! The reason being the interest and the payment protection were more than my monthly direct debit, that was the first time I realised I had it, I called them and asked them to send me the original agreement which had a tick in the space, over the years I have had a lot of loans and credit cards and have never taken out insurance so why did I then ? To cut a long story short is it worth trying to reclaim? I have recently paid off some of this debt with another credit card , thanks for any advice.

Missdoo, go for it. If you don't ask you won't get. Try to reclaim and if they say no you've only lost some time and the cost of a stamp.
Was PPI discussed when you took out the card?
Were you led to believe that you had to take out PPI to get the card?
Was it simply added to the card without explanation?
Who put the tick on the form? (ie: did they arrange it over the phone and send you a completed form to sign?)
Even if you saw PPI in your monthly statements, did you think that this was part of the terms and conditions of having the card? Many people had no idea of mis-selling until it started appearing in the media and on websites like this.

  • Hi,
Tried to claim mis-sold ppi ins on a credit card from Lloyds tsb 3 Years ago and was told no. saw an ad from a company that said they could get it back for me but after writing to them they have told me all claims for PPI are now on hold because of a court case and hope to have more news soon. Is this true and if so will it go the way of the bank charges? Thanks

    Hi and welcome

May I first ask if the bank had given a final decision?
If not then maybe you could challenge this again yourself.

Yes that is correct what the company had told you and there is a case starting from next week, but how long it will take to resolve we do not know yet.

There is more on the FSA site below.
    http://www.fsa.gov.uk/pages/Library/Communication/PR/2010/153.shtml

Also check the threads out as well, you will find lots who have made reclaims are in the position of having their cases put in hold, some have also been resolved in their favour, but had to wait for their payouts.

I really do not know what will become of this but hope it will not be bad news.

I don't think it will be anything like the bank charges issues, but again anything can happen i suppose, but lets hope not.

Good luck on your reclaiming and ask for help if you decide to want to take this up again without using a claims company.

I assume they have made you aware that if your successful, they will be entitled to so much of your refund?

  • Hi all,

Well, I suppose it is great news, I applied to NatWest/RBS for a PPI reclaim and within only a couple of months and no extra work from myself (other than the original claim submission based on the forms on here) I have been awarded £3600, very nice! However, before I sign the declaration and get back my 3.6k I just wanted to make sure that I'm not missing something here. It's great that I have been awarded this money back, but I still have no idea how long I have been charged PPI, they are paying back 6 years of PPI but I cant help feeling that they go back far longer than 6 years, I have never really checked properly, although I have statements somewhere that may clarify further. But this could have gone back much further than 6 years, as I have had my credit card for around 20 years and have no idea when they started charging me PPI. If it goes back the '6' years, how much further will it go back and is there further money I can get back? I can check this but it means lots of work going back through archives stored in a lock-up, is it likely that I can get this back? or should I simply be happy with what I have (which Im delighted about:)

Not being greedy here, after all its my money, but I'm angry that they did this in the first place, I had always thought banks can be trusted and never checked this stuff until recently (from now on I am checking everything)

So should I just be grateful that I got a good an amount back, or should I go further? and are there any risk in doing this?

    Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Great site by the way, and yes I do have a smile on my face!

I was told by the bank that the woman who delt with the application had left so nothing could be done. The claim against them was the form was filled in after I signed in someone elses handwriting and dated six days after my signature date, they sent me a copy. I know the company will charge me 25% of the claim but just get frustrated with the answers and delay tactics from the banks and also I am now living in Ireland so it gets awkward and takes longer. Thanks for your reply.
