PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I am having an interesting time with Barclays at the moment, and would be grateful for any suggestions for next move. In brief, wrote using free forms in mid July reclaiming credit card PPI. They replied very quickly (17th July) cancelling PPI and said we would hear from them soon. Another letter 9th August saying cannot provide full rsponse at present. Then the great line "I remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible and I will contact you again by 7th September 2010". Thank goodness they were acting as quickly as possible...needless to say, I have heard nothing. What do I do now?
Many thanks for any comments
Hi there
You have 2 choices really, you could complain to the FOS, or just give them a few days longer before doing this, say another week the latest. Because you can never guarantee of them giving a decision on the time stated as annoying as it is I know.
And there is also an email contact of the Chief Executive officer (ICO), it may help to email him to let him know that your not happy and still waiting to hear of a decision etc.

Good luck with this, please keep us posted, cheers.:);)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi There
They have 8 weeks to reply to the letter. If they do not respond in that time then write another letter give them one week to respond and inform them that you will then go to the FOS.
If you could settle it straight with Barclays then that would be better as it can take a while for FOS to sort it out.
Good Luck:mad:0 -

Thanks Di...I think I will use both bits of your advice. Namely, wait a couple of days (not a week!) and then email the CEO.
Of course I will keep all posted as to the outcome.

Thanks maxdp, only just seen your reply. But is it eight weeks from my original submission (around 12th July) or eight weeks from their reply of early August?

I am chasing a claim through the same bank and just wondered what the process was for you..I made the claim to the bak in Oct 09, went to FOS after 8 weeks and since then the bank have just not responded to the FOS and I was told last week that it will now go to the Ombudsman for final decision and this could take 3-4 months.......any advise on how long it took and what you did would be great x0 -

Barclays are slower on average and they have a very annoying tendency of sending out their own questionnaire which simply repeats the info in the FOS questionnaire.
They claim not to have records beyond 6 yrs, but will accept if you provide it. Their method of calculation of refunds also does not follow FSA policy.
Say you provide evidence that you have had a card since 2000 but can only provide statements for a number of these months - they will calculate the average across the entire period, even though the balance of the card probably increases. If they do this, fight them. LTSB has a fairer approach which for missing data beyond 6 years will take the average of the nearest statement before and after the missing statement(s). This can result in several hundred pounds difference.
Good luckPPI compensation claims paid: Egg Card: £1,107, Alliance & Leicester: £2,425
PPI claims agreed: Lloyds TSB Loansdirect: £16,551, Lloyds TSB Advance Card: £9,360
PPI claims pending: RBS/NatWest Visa Gold Card: £10,734, Barclaycard: £9,375, Barclaycard loans: £2,400, LTSB (4 loans, '90s): £11,670, M&S: £1,351. Plus..
TOTAL PPI reclaim: £67,0000 -

As predicted Loans.co.uk have until next Friday, the 17th, to pay but received a letter yesterday saying it will take another 2-3 weeks to calculate the refund. After three years of having no money due to this I'm a but angry that they can't even meet the deadlines set by the Ombudsman. 12 weeks is ample time to have sorted this out!! Is there any way I can speed this process up?:mad:0 -

Do you know who the chief executive officer is? (CEO), it may be worth contacting him or or with an email or a hard copy letter.
If you send by letter just address it to the CEO/Manager of Loans.co.uk/
Maybe have a word with the fos first and see if your able to do this.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
