I bought a Northern Rock loan with PPI totalling £4998 last May via the internet. I did not speak to anyone at NR and the only correspondance has been the usual documentation you get. I am a IT Contractor for a university and my contract with the university terminated on 29th July 2007. They then rehired me on 1st October 2007. Therefore is was offically unemployed and claimed DWP Jobseekers Allowance for 2 months.

Just been reading the NR definitions in the PPI policy documentation regarding claiming the unemployment section. They say if I knew that I would be made unemployed or had reason to believe I might become unemployed, my claim would be excluded.

As far as I remember in May 07, I knew my last day of the contract at that time would be the 29th July '07. Therefore for this reason, my PPi does not cover me and I beleive I am entitled to a refund of my PPI.

    Opinions please

    Thanks in advance

    Hi All
I've recently been offered a settlement from First Plus of £5200. This, they say, is (sure you've all heard these percentages before!!) 78% pro rata rebate of original £9700 premium, and we've already had £1000 back when we settled the loan. We only had the insurance for a year before we settled the loan in Jan 2005.

I am not sure what to do. Can anyone work out what I am entitled to and if I ask for more, can they refuse and do I stand a chance of losing their original offer of £5200 too?

At the moment I am tempted to just take their offer, but would really welcome any advice from you all. Please let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks.

    Hi

I wrote to HSBC 4 weeks ago, they have replied with a letter saying they need to investigate further (another 4 weeks) and will get back to me.

Is this normal? Do they do this just to stall for a bit?

    anyone else claimed from HSBC?

They will stall, get used to it, this process won't be quick.

They are also allowed 8 weeks to respond.

  • Hi.

Sorry for asking a question that's probably already been answered but I'm in work at the moment and don't have time to use the search function - if anyone can help I can pop on again later to check replies.

Basically I had no idea about all this PPI Reclaim stuff.

Over the past couple of years I have had 2 loans from Egg, and one Secured loan from Welcome Finance.

The egg loans were settled early by refinancing, and the Welcome loan was paid off when I sold my house.

Now, I can't remember what (if any) PPI I had on them, so I have emailed egg and written to welcome asking them to send me copies of my credit agreements.

Since I was in a bit of debt at time (Ha, I say that as if I'm NOT now!) I never really took much notice of all the PPI stuff, and feel I may just have accepted it without looking into it enough (which I know is my fault).

Now I know that with the Welcome loan I don't recal ever discussing PPI with them, and if I did then it was NOT in any great detail, so hopefully I will have a claim.

What I wondered was - since I settled these loans early - I don't recall anything in the setllements about rebates of PPI not paid yet (ie if the PPI is added at the start of the loan, and I repay early, am I supposed to pay off the entire PPI amount?)

Sorry if that all sounds a bit mad :D
  • In my experience many people purchasing new cars have been mis-sold ppi etc.

Often when buying new vehicles on various manufacturers marketing programmes people are told that they have to take out PPI or paint protection to qualify for the marketing programme. This is not the case.

Another point to consider is whether the finance documents were signed on the dealer's premises.
  • Just a quick question.

I sent letters to Evans and Debenhams(GE Money) regarding PPI.They have sent back stating that because the proctection was started and finished before January 2005 there is no chance of reclaiming the PPI on these.

Does anyone know if this is right or had one of these letters already?
  • Hi All
I have just recieved a letter from Egg credit card in response to my letter sent last week.
They have replied saying that I am not entitled to any money as when I applied for the credit card online I choose the box say that I accepted the PPI and they could not fill it in for me. They sent a copy with this application form showing this.
Is it worth continuing with the second letter and so on.

forms have just been sent to ombudsman firstplus rang this morning to say I had been miss informed and that you cannot accept the rebate offer and continue to pursue the misselling and that I had to have it taken off the loan they wanted to know who i spoke to at the ombudsman obviously i didnt know so I rang back the ombudsman advised to ring the FSA to gain some clarity and yes I can claim for the misselling and it should have no bearing on the rebate and it may be there company policy to refund and pay off the loan but i am entitled to contest that.
I returned this information to first plus confirmed a name and they rang back again to say the offer still stands 78% and 22% being retained I can only accept this if it is and end to the whole matter!! basically on condition it is not pursued any further I stated that the unfair rebate is a seperate issue and they dissagree you can imagine I am livid so its gone to the FOS
I hope this company get a good kick up the **** they have got away with murder for too long Id love :money: to get on there case its a wonder they havent been investigated by watchdog, I bet there interest rates wont go down with the BOE rate dropping probably put it up!!!!
anybody else waiting for the FOS regarding this company ombudsman said in 60% of cases they are dealt with in 3 months

    Actually,
you will be entitled to the whole of the ppi premium and more if you go about it the right way and hit them with the right sticks.

However, I have since seen the light.
