An update on my post above, I finally did receive the £900 refund back (after 6 weeks) but am still waiting for the £5k worth of fraudulent transactions.

The call centre is useless and just says head office must deal with it but I am not allowed to phone head office, so what the hell am I meant to do?

They do generally respond on twitter and get it escalated and then head office phone me, but Steve from head office promised the £5k would be returned within 5 days...that was 8 days ago so I don't hold up much hope for anything any of them say.

And yes, I could have switched it off when I returned from the USA but I was actually using it whilst on holiday in Germany for the New Year so it wouldn't have helped. Think it may be cut up once I get my money back...

I've used my Supercard successfully many times, online as well as travelling.

I had an exception last week when my attempted purchase of a €3,000-ish BA ticket was declined. I had previously bought BA tickets of lower value online. I used another card to pay this time.

Almost immediately, I got a text from MBNA saying they had declined a Tuxedo transaction, and asking me to text Yes or No depending on whether I had tried to make the transaction. My Yes was acknowledged immediately with a note that the suspension had been lifted.

This followed the approval procedure outlined before.

This got me wondering. Should I have informed somebody of my imminent ticket purchase? If so, who? Supercard probably wouldn't be interested. Would MBNA?

In this case, my Supercard was linked to an MBNA account. Perhaps a Barclaycard-linked transaction would have been successful?

Informing them wouldn't do any good, they would still decline, few people I know are planning big transactions for Euro 2016 tickets and phoned card companies to check and were told they can't pre approve transactions. Just have to take it as it comes

I was so happy when I first got the card but it hasn't worked out brilliantly for some. I have only used it for online purchases and cash withdrawals as, going on some reports on here, it sometimes goes wrong and is a pain in the 'arris to sort out.

Overall I'm happier (and more confident) using the Clarity instead (a notion that I once poo pooed). It didn't help that one of the big draws of the Supercard was that I'd get cashback on my overseas transactions without being clobbered by fees but now that cashback has all but disappeared there's little incentive.
  • Great card to use abroad for spending but hopeless if you get a refund. A refund does not show up on the app so you have to email them to be told yes it is showing and then again to make sure it gets credited back to your account. A total of around 6 weeks to get a refund back

    Hi

Has anyone had the same problem as me?

I was one of the lucky ones to get onto to the pilot and successfully and happily used my Supercard in Berlin last August. Although I was a little dubious at first, it was no different to using my debit card at home and returned a great exchange rate.

With a happy experience behind me I decided not to bother going to the trouble of buying currency to take with me to Bruges in December but use my Supercard for both purchases and cash withdrawal. However, try as I might, I couldn't get it to work in either scenario, leaving me with very little cash. A lengthy and expensive call to the UK support line resulted in me needing to change my password but this still didn't work and, after an even longer call, I was told my transactions had timed out and I had to complete them within THREE SECONDS or the system would boot me out! !!!!!!!!!! It isn't even possible to do that!

So far, no-one at Supercard has been to offer any sort of explanation. Something must have happened between August and December but I was told nothing had changed. But at least they have agreed to pay my telephone costs and the additional bank charges I incurred because I had to use my debit card (without, of course, any issues whatsoever).

The whole episode was extremely successful and ruined my badly-needed Christmas break. If I don't get both a satisfactory explanation and suitable recompense from Supercard, I will report the situation to the FCA for investigation. And, needless to say, I won't be using this currently useless piece of plastic again until I am assured of a proper resolution. Well, maybe not totally useless, it is winter after all!

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced the same issue? Those of you who never got off the starting block aren't missing out on anything except stress!

My card stopped working and had to be replaced, no transactions would work, not sure what you can't report them for? It's a pilot scheme there is gonna be problems that's the point of a pilot
  • I didn't get any notification that my linked card had expired.

I only worked out why the card was getting declined after getting back from Barcelona!

My error. But a prompt would have been nice.

Have you fed that back to them?

Is there a mechanism to do so?
