    Hi. Newbie poster here :-)

I got my card as part of the trial and when I used it in May in Italy it was fine (the only issue was that it took about a month for transactions to show up).

I used it again in Sep in Belgium, and it was accepted everywhere. However, Supercard have incorrectly charged me for an item I didn't spend, and trying to get the problem rectified is like trying to get blood out of a stone...

I used it for four transactions; £20.59, £63.15, £3.11 and £228.51. On my credit card bill, they charged me five times - they added on a random charge for £50.35. Then had also credited me back my £3.11 charge.

When I called them last week (on an 0843 number, with no call charges displayed on their website), they couldn't tell me what the £50.35 charge was for - it wasn't on their system. They said my query had to be passed through to the Finance Team in Chester, and please could I email screenshots of my credit card statement and my supercard statement.

Today, the so called Finance Team emailed me to say there are four charges on my credit card, and four on my supercard, so there's NO ISSUE! I then had to call their 0843 number again, and got through to a chap who said he's got to escalate it to the Finance Team again. He can apparently now see that I shouldn't have been charged £50.35...

This is surely no way to run a financial institution, playing around with peoples hard earned money? What other transactions could they charge me for that I don't make!?

Also, when the trial was launched MSE said that you'd be able to identify the transactions on your Credit/Debit card account "You should still see the name of the shop, restaurant or ATM you used Supercard in on your statement but it will have a Supercard tag on it, so you can identify the transaction." But you can't; they just say Tuxedo Money Chester (sorry if this has been discussed already).

Any advice from people?!?! I'm hoping to get the issue sorted and cancel the card. Can I bill them for the cost of the calls that I'm having to make to sort out their error?! (about £4 at the moment!).

All have mine have shown exactly where it was spent, and even for atm withdrawals states the location of the atm
  • I have only used my card once, in an ATM in France and all went OK.
BUT the exchange rate I got was about 77p for 1 Euro whilst my nationwide credit card was charging around 73p
So although I had no fee I did, in fact, pay around 5% extra.

Your forgetting the cash advance and the foreign transaction fees you would have incurred on the nationwide credit card,

as a matter of interest how did you know what the credit card would have charged at the time? as that seems a big variation given the supercard uses visa rate, which in my experience have been slightly better than whats been showing on xe.com at the time
  • I have used the card in France and Poland and it worked very well on all occasions and my statements have been accurate and so I am very pleased with it!

You got caught out by DCC. When the ATM asks whether you want to be charged in Pounds or Euros, you chose Pounds, when you should have chosen Euros.

I got my Supercard in the trial but have yet to use it. I'm going to Australia and New Zealand for a month at Xmas and am planning to link it to a points earning American Express card. I'm only going to use it for ATM transactions as I have a clarity card for purchases. Will I encounter any problems using the Supercard With an American Express? I've heard odd things about the way AmEx exchange money (always converting to US dollars first), so will this have an impact?

It would be the Supercard that does the conversion using Visa Europe rates. But, sorry to point out that Supercard supports only Visa and MasterCard as linked cards, not Amex.
    Evolution, not revolution

New FCA regulations on the usage of telephone numbers by financial services will come into force at midnight tonight. From tomorrow, 26 October 2015, you should no longer be asked to call premium rate 084, 087 or 09 numbers for contacting financial service companies.

In some cases it may take some time to update all relevant marketing materials. Wherever you see an 084 or 087 number advertised, always try calling the matching 034 or 037 number first. If it works, it will be a cheaper call. If it doesn't, there is no charge for trying.
