Something I noticed in the terms and conditions (paragraph 4.1): you can't spend more than £20,000 on the card in a year.

I fully believe that £20,000 is more than enough for vast majority of people living in the UK if it is just to be used abroad ...

Unless you're staying at the Hotel de Paris and playing the Monte-carlo casino. In which case you probably don't care about conversion costs.

On a more serious note, it might be an issue for some 4x4 overland travellers moving their vehicles around.

Stupid question - I've received my card but I have no idea of my account number or password as the app was freezing up when I ordered it and I just had one email with no such details. I've tried to log in with both numbers on the card but no luck - anyone able to tell me where the account number is or is it a call to customer services?

It's on the card under your name.

How bizarre - it just won't work. I'll have to call them.

Tried to use mine in Portugal this week.
ATM gave me the option of the withdrawal in Euros or sterling, selected Euros.
The ATM then stated that the transaction cannot be completed. didn't have the confidence to try it in a retailer transaction.
Supercard had previously told me that I could change my PIN in the uk at an ATM.
No faith in this card at all.

It's one of the most sophisticated card products ever launched on a technology platform built for bog standard prepaid cards. It also makes absolutely no money. Make the most of it while it's around.

I received my card this week. However, the wait gave me time to reflect on whether it was really worthwhile for me.

I have a Halifax Clarity Card which gives me the best exchange rate. I can use it to obtain foreign cash but although there are no fees I will pay interest from the date of posting until payment is made.

I also have a Nationwide Flexplus account which gives me a Debit Card which gives me free cash withdrawals including overseas - no fees or charges.

I also have a Nationwide Select Credit Card (Visa) which gives me the second best exchange rate and a 0.5% cashback for sterling purchases. However, the better Mastercard rate probably wipes out the cashback benefit.

Apart from that purchases with the Supercard via a Credit Cards is indirect and will N O T be covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Best to use the Credit Card itself on major purchases while abroad.

    I wonder why I rushed in ......
  • Shambolic customer service. The call centre is entirely staffed and operated in India and it is really difficult to get them to actually do anything - and I have tried hard. Everything they say over the phone is read from a script, and really is painful to listen to.
One of my cards can't be registered because it has less than three months left before expiry - they don't seem to understand when I ask them why this would make a difference - they just keep repeating from their script "please select another card with more than 3 months left before expiry". So then it wouldn't register my HSBC credit card - it took my debit card but not my credit - it kept coming up with an error in the app, which reads "oops, something has gone wrong, please try again later". This happened repeatedly, so in the end I called them because I was going to the US a couple of days later. They would not do anything without a screenshot of the error from my phone (waste of time - all it says is "oops, something has gone wrong etc etc". But I sent them a screenshot (painfully), then rang them (as instructed) to ensure they received it (coz they don't send email responses to emails). They said they had received it and when I told them I was leaving the next day they said "use another card". But did at least commit to reply within a day or two.....
So here we are 16 days later, and someone has just replied from India to say that after thorough investigation (yeah, right) the postcode on my HSBC credit card is not the same as on my supercard. The Supercard that my other HSBC card is registered with also contains another banks credit card all of which are registered at my home address so the answer is complete rubbish - and not a hint of apology for taking 16 days to respond.
I had chased this response last week, and in my chaser I mentioned that the card didn't work at City Sports in New York ( an American version of Sports Direct, but classier!) - it kept getting denied when I swiped it. Of course, their reply today completely neglects to answer that issue.
The card SOUNDS like a great idea (not withstanding that no-one seems to know how they will make money from it), but the customer service is dreadful - really bad.
  • Well, I managed to register for the original trial and am still waiting for my card to arrive, over 40 days later. I've chased it up with them, via email and Twitter (I heard that they were responsive via Twitter), basically I've been told to wait for my card to arrive - pathetic.

I'm travelling at the end of the week so I've ordered currency now (obviously not from Travelex). Even if the card does eventually arrive, I won't be using it - such poor service doesn't deserve the benefit of having my usage data.
