There's nothing to dodge, the OP agreed to the inflated price without thinking. We all make occasional mistakes and I'm sure the garage have already reimbursed them.

Occasional mistakes are one thing, but if they're complaining because they've paid £500 too much because THEY DIDN'T READ THE PAPERWORK, then they need to take another look at who's responsible for that.

The time to question the deal was before handing over the money, not afterwards on a public forum.

Yes, they agreed the price so there's no con.

I just find it amazing how many of you condone this bad practice from a dealer. Let's hope none of you make a simple mistake in the future.

    What bad practice?

Lots of dealers have lower prices on internet ads than on the forecourt (because internet shoppers browse by price), you just use it as a bargaining point; "It's £500 less on autotrader, lets start from there".

The point being the OP saw the paperwork and agreed on a price, and is now complaining about being ripped off because the "starting" price didn't match the ad.

The starting price is irrelevant, as is the part-ex price. The only one that matters is the cost to change (what you are paying the dealer). The dealer could knock £2k off the asking price and £2k off the part-ex and you'd be in exactly the same position.

Read the original post again and you will see the cars price was also shown on the window.
Again imagine if this happened in a supermarket and you didn't notice until you got home.
No wonder there's so much dodgy practice when so many people allow it.

I very rarely negotiate over the total bill in a supermarket, and I certainly don't recall ever trading in last week's shopping.

Ok, so the only issue here is that the original price is wrong in the paperwork, even though the net price is correct?
