It really doesn't much matter one tiny bit if the price was £10,100 with £3k trade-in, £9,600 with £2,500 trade-in, £9,100 with £2,000 trade-in. The bottom line is the same for each of those - the OP is handing over their car keys and 360 crisp £20 notes in exchange for a different set of car keys.

If the price to change is correct then there is no problem to the purchaser. The vendor may be massaging the figures. I bought a Civic once and the price to change was £9k. When the invoice was present the figures were different but the funds supplied by me was the same

You'll call me a pedant, but may I reiterate your own earlier point about having basic numeracy skills being important :D

There could be issues if there is HP involved. The invoice price will effect the total contributed at the point of purchase and, hence, the voluntary termination poitn

Doe nobody ever read the paperwork before they sign it? Strange how there is always time to read it once you get home. Still, no harm done in this case.

You really have to post a copy of ALL of the figures. Quite often headline figures are, "adjusted" but make no real difference to the agreed price to change.

I'm confused about the road tax....

As soon as they send paperwork to DVLA it will be marked as untaxed unless you use the green slip code and pay it yourself.
  • If the garage had mistakenly put the new car price down as £19495 rather than £9495 and you still agreed to pay a balance of £7100, would you still be on here complaining?

As other's have said, you agreed to pay a balance of £7100 plus trade in. You were happy at that figure. That is the figure you are going to pay so I don't see where the problem lies.

What a stupid point to make, how can people on here think it's OK for a car dealer to increase the price of a car and con someone out of an appreciable amount of money.
