That is the most missleading rant I have read for a while.

Why would m2yd go bust and p4u survive ? m2yd is in effect a trading name of p4u so the only way they will go bust is if p4u do.

They use the same forms for the cashback and you send them to the same processing company in Bristol.

Just my neurotic "rant" after the CNM etc. sagas. I just feel safer with the "bigger" name. Sorry, but just my thoughts.
Could M2YD not go bust without Phones 4U folding?? I'm not that well clued up on the legalities of companies folding.

No, they are part of the 4u Company, not Limited in their own right

Thanks and if that's 100% correct then it doesn't really matter. As said, take the best deal. Just need to take care at the moment regarding mobile cashback deals and to play safe.

    Hello,

I'm very sceptical when it comes to mobile phone contracts offering cashback deals. For example, http://www.onecompare.com/buy-a-mobile-phone/best-mobile-phone-deals/nokia/6300.htm?skn=moneysavingexpert

says that I can get a free phone and a 12 month contract for FREE?! All I would have to do is to pay £35 per month and gradually claim it all back. If I just stick to using my monthly limit (which I believe I will do) then the phone retailer would make £0, the mobile network would make £0 from me also. How can retailers/networks possibly make any money with these deals? Or are there pitfalls to beware of?

The mobile phone companies sell you these contracts in the hope that you will forget to make a claim. That is the reason the first claim is 4-6 months after you bought the phone (most people are likely to have forgotten to the clam dates by then) and then the claim dates are spaced close to esch other. I had 2 mobiles from e2save and got the full cash back (100% back) but after a few phone calls. got full cashback for 1 phone from phonebox direct and 1 from mobile outlet but for 2 phones from mobile outlet I hardly got any (I had to change my address twice and to top it there was postal strike so did'nt get my bills). It is a gamble but if you go for the big names and the ones who accept copies and not just original bills and the ones who give atleast 30 days time to send your bills and you send all your bills in time thro recorded delivery you might get it all back. If you are planning to buy any of the free gifts ie laptop, camcorder, PSP etc I'd go for the free gift but since I do not need any of them I have gone for another 12 month free line rental this time from e2save.

And any rhyme or reason as to when new handsets are added onto the site? Or do I need to keep checking back?

Check every few days, don't know of any alert system for these sites.
  • I took out a contract with M2YD on 26th April, everything seemed fine until I checked my bank statement. The insurance company they use had taken £9.99 on the 5th May and then again on the 29th May. I checked my contract and found that I was supposed to have 3 months free insurance, first installment to be taken on the 4th month and the premium I was to pay was actually £5.99 not £9.99.

I didn't want to call a 0871 number so I found a freephone number 08000152779. I got through quite quickly to an advisor and explained, he put me on hold for about 10 minutes and then came back and said ok Mrs so and so we'll refund your 2 x £4 we overcharged you. I said what about the 3 months free, he said ok I'll give you them. I told him I don't want 3 months free insurance I want you to refund all my monies (2 x £9.99) and cancel the contract. He left me on the line for 15 minutes and said no we can only refund you 2 x £4. I was raging by now and feeling conned(lol) I angrily told him to stuff his free insurance up his jacksy and refund my money you have robbed me of and cancel my contract NOW!!!!! or else I'll report you to the trading standards. he left me on the phone for another 10 minutes and then said ok Mrs so and so we'll cancel your contract and refund your 2 x £9.99 which should be in your account within 5-10 working days. I said fine, asked for his name and extension number, which he gave me no prob.

Lets hope I get the refund without any more hassle. It might be an idea to check your bank that this hasn't happened to you.

Btw when should I expect to receive my first cashback claim form? TIA

Having already sent in my first claim form(s), what happens now, do I just wait for the cashback ? I've tried calling them but the lines always seem to be busy.

If you followed the instructions on the claim form, sit back and relax. In a few weeks (sometimes within 7 days) they will send you a cheque.

    Not impressed so far.

Orer a phone on Saturday...website says it'll get here by tuesday 1pm. Contacted tues 3pm as it hadn't arrived...apparently they didn't have it in stock, but that it would be with me shortly. They should have been getting stock that day.

It's now after 1pm on wednesday and it's still not here.

I know in the big scheme of things it isn't much, but when a company says they'll try and get something to you on Tuesday then it should be with you on tuesday.

Anyone else had this at the start and went on to no further problems? Please?!
