    Morning all :hello:

Well I had an awful day diet-wise yesterday. DH's uncle died and he's executor, so yesterday we were making funeral arrangements and sorting out financial bits and pieces. We didn't have chance to eat until nearly 3pm and then the only option was fish and chips  (which I didn't even enjoy). Then when we got home at 9pm we decided to have some cheese and crackers, and soon realised we were hungrier than we thought, and I ate far more than I should have. Day One today, but we've still got more to do over the weekend, so I'm going to have to prepare better, and take some diet friendly food with us!

Starlight - sorry to miss your lb, it'll be in next week's chart. Hope you start feeling better soon. ((hugs))

Tiredycustard - welcome to the thread :D. I echo what others have said about planning and using a slow cooker*, I've done both for years, instigated by being a mum and working full time. I would also recommend doing your shopping on line - it saves so much time, it's well worth the delivery fee. If you haven't done it before it needs a bit of time initially, to find your way around the aisles, but once you've done it a couple of times, your regular items form a separate list so they're much easier to find. I plan my menus for a week at a time, then draw up a list of everything I'll need and the actual shopping bit can be done in as little as 30 minutes.

Victory - another lb off, well done! When is it going to end, are you size zero yet? :rotfl:

Ajax - the idea that veggies don't have a problem with weight gain is definitely an urban myth, but there's been talk in the media recently about research that shows vegetarians are much healthier than the rest of us, with a longer life expectancy, so it's obviously the way to go. I'm hoping that only eating meat 2 or 3 times a week will have a positive effect on my health, but I couldn't give it up altogether.

Right - better get on with some work! ;)

    LL

p.s. * when buying a slow cooker, size DOES matter, so go for the biggest!

Wow - thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I think I just hit a real low point and felt I had to deal with this food thing.

    It doesnt help that :

1/ I have no fridge (havent done for 2 months - old one broke and can't replace 'cos moving house in 2wks)
2/ My washing machine just broke down earlier this week (so 6 peoples washing to do by hand:eek: )
3/ I'm knackered and have an ulcer the size of mount etna in my mouth. Okay SLIGHT exagerration  ...but it feels like it :rotfl: )

Anyhow - I've made the first poitive step coming here.

Re:slow cooker ... I work two days pw and the rest of the time work from home running my 2/3 businesses ....mad! so I've no excuse really ... I should be able to do my meals. In all honesty, though, I'm more likely to find time to chop veggies earlier in the day - so I think the slow cooker idea could be real winner.

    Thanks everyone :grouphug:

Hi, I just wondered if you had heard of Freecycle? I got a vacuum cleaner and a rice cooker from there recently. The rice cooker has been great as I had a tendency to burn the rice! https://www.freecycle.org.uk You might find a slow cooker available on Freecycle as lots of people have them lurking unused in the back of their cupboards.

Good luck with the weight loss!

    Hi furrypig
first and foremost: wait til tomorrow's weigh in! You are trying to second guess the impossible :D . Hormones can explain the 'I feel fat' feeling but it may not be factual. Also given you have lost 6lbs in the last 2 weeks, it is quite possible (+ takeaway) that you might maintain this week.
In the last 3 months, every 4th week I have lost 3lbs, then maintain, then lose .5 or 1lb for 2 weeks and yet I stick to the plan & similar exercise each week. So definitely a monthly pattern for me. So don't be discouraged if you do maintain - just keep going as you have been doing on the weeks you have lost.

Don't go too long without a little treat. This shouldn't be torture if you are to suceed in the long term.

I just wanted to say a big thank you BB as you took time out to reply to me when I was feeling low:beer: !

I read it just after you had written it and felt much better so thanx a bunch!!

Sorry I didn't reply at the time but better late than never!!

...furrypig Please don't let it get you down not-tagged-smiley-14571.gifbecause we all have those sorts of days when we feel bloated and fat; many months ago I felt the same one Sunday evening and dreaded weighing myself the next morning, I posted here telling folks how I felt and was told not to worry as it's what the scales tell you and not how you feel, and that I would be okay in the morning - and guess what - they were right! (Although I hadn't had a curry and a bottle of wine :D ) You've done so well to lose 6lbs in 2 weeks :T and hopefully the scales will be kind to you tonight too :) ...

Thanks also to petrichor, just catching up on yesterdays posts. I didn't actually visit here yesterday as was feeling a bit better, but do appreciate your kind words!

Oh I forgot to say that after all my concerns about feeling fat etc etc I lost 2 lbs!!! Wot a shocker and just goes to show you that you never know what the scales will say!!

Quick bit of advise, going to a summer ball tomorrow (posh frock at the ready!) but will have to eat/ drink whatever is there 7pm - 1am. Was planning on sticking to white wine and water, how bad is white wine??? Also pretty sure there is a buffet so what are the worse sorts of party snacks when you are trying to diet??? Will have to eat something or I will fall down!!

I plan to do lots of dancing so hope to use a few calories up that way!!

Thanks for your advice on this one!

    Hello Everyone :hello:

What a gossipy lot we are :D but isn't it nice :j ...

...tiredycustard 65z5l3m.jpgto our lovely bunch of fatbusters. When I read your OP I thought you must be superwoman :o (I'm the queen of disarray!). I agree with the others about menu planning to which I am a recent convert (it's brilliant), and the use of slow cookers; but I was concerned to read about your tiredness, being a vegetarian are you sure that you're getting enough iron which most omnivores get sufficient from eating meat? If not, would a supplement help - I wouldn't normally advocate such things, but just for a quick fix? Do you eat the same meals as the rest of your family? I know how easy it can be to do different things to tempt children, but if you cook fresh stuff for all of you it would save you time and also money by not paying for Tesco ready meals (some of which are very nice :o:D ) and you could portion control your own. Whatever you do, please stay with us and keep us informed of how well you will be doing :j ...52zrwj4.gifIt reads a bit preachy now but it wasn't meant to be - you must read it a slowly as I type it :)

Oh dear and here is me having signed up for weight watchers on Monday and am now being sent to Texas for a week in a fortnight ....
I'm sorry saversarn but I have absolutely no sympathy for you  you come here, join us and then tell us that you're off to TEXAS .. Oh dear! indeed :rotfl: It's a good job that Brighton belle and Katiepc are here to keep me company in my holidayless life  but  hmm! Brighton is on the coast hmm!...

...See furrypig What did I tell you!!!! :D Well done on losing 2 lbs:T and as for the summer ball tomorrow (where's my invite by the way?) unless you're planning to get legless a few glasses of white wine once in a while isn't going to be the end of the world. Have a lovely time  ...

...Lois How would everbody cope without you? You are a 4ztiyk5.gif...

I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!
  • Hi Poohbear, thanks for the suggestion. I am a member of Freecycle ... but at the moment it's not really a cash issue ... more that we are supposed to be moving house in about 3 weeks and the place we are moving too has fridge/freezer and washing machine already. So - if we bought new ones now - we'd just have to get rid of them again in a few weeks:( Bad timing eh! Thanks anyway though ... apreciate the thought:)

Lois I do my shopping online at tesco .. but I find the biggest problem is the fruit and veg at the me. For starters .. the kids get through sooo much of it and having no fridge makes storage a headache. In an ideal world I'd go out and buy fresh each day ... but I don't have time to get to the shops each day (also I only walk - don't drive - and veggies can be heavy when I have baby in the sling, one in the buggy another on one hand ... thankfully my 8yr old can take care of herself:) ) I though of a veg box, but the biggest box wouldn't be anywhere near big enough for us and it is so expensive.
I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm making loads of excuses ... I keep trying to find a way around it all ...

Petrichor ... thanks for thinking of me ... you are right about the tiredness thing. I have been thinking about this over the last week or so and think i should get along to the doctor. I've been vege for over 20 years now and till now my iron levels have always stayed good (in spite of 4 babies plus 3 m/c's plus breastfeeding almost continuously now for the last 5 years) Did I mention ... I am currently b/f my 7 month old?

Is anyone still awake after I've waffled on? Sorry:o

Anyway .. I'm not dieting now as such (have eaten bread and bisucits so far today :o:o:o )

...but i do want ot start in earnest and so I'm heading out this afternoon to run some errands and hopefully I'll be able to call in and pick up a slow cooker from argos (if my kids will stand still long enough for me to look at the catalogue:D )My mouth waters at hte prospect of a big steaming post of veggie casserole). I must make it more of a priority to find a way of getting the right foods in the house)

Starlight sorry to hear about your food poisening. Hope you feel better soon:)

hugs to everyone .... hope to join you all soon as a 'loser'

Ok on the Lenny vs The Girls thread it was suggested I looked on here as well :D

I NEED to shift 140lbs  piled on after a road accident and the subsequent steroids (followed by the Docs saying lose weight - here have some more tablets that are steroid based!) I have shirted 21lbs on my own but some support would be good :rotfl:. Hmm how much does a slimming club cost per week? as sticking that in my savings account for paying off my CC would be good! at the moment I stick a £ per lb in there to pay for some new clothes ;)

It's not a holiday, it's work and I intend to work hard when I'm there. Although I do get a weekend free which I am looking forward to. I'm not sure about looking up a local weight watchers- thats a tad scary
Day four now and I really enjoy reading all your posts they do help to keep you motivated. I am finding it hard not knowing what I weigh daily though, but that really is overkill I guess :o
