apple_muncher wrote: »tog - that sounds like one absolutely wonderful weekend! I had to laugh at only buying coats for ds2 from car boots, etc - but to get a herb pot thrown in is pure genius!
I'm off to Lunnun town today with dd - am working on doing the 'experiences not things' side of life. Have printed out my 2ofr 1 voucher as dd wants to go to the zoo. Just need to pack lots of food (2 coeliacs here so cannot rely on being able to buy food when out) and off we'll trot. Guess I should let dd wake up first...
I know it sounds mean but the number of coats that he lost in one school year is beyond me, some of them were good quality (not necessarily branded coz that's not us). He loves his car boot find though, he wanted to wear it before we had time to wash it but I had to say no coz it's not very hygienic that way. It's chugging away in the washer as we "speak".
I agree with the "experience not things". Has it been the theme of our family since we went on this debt-busting journey a few years ago.
Enjoy your day out with dd, applemuncher.
Hubby was listening to a podcast about money make over by Dave Ramsay and something struck a chord in me which I would like to share to you today:
Act your WAGE. Live within your means.

Oh will soooo need to take that in when I rejoin next month. Not all of the spends these last months have been frivolous but some maybe unnecessary or even out of jealousy of DH's spending on his new hobby beer brewing. This will make money sense in the long run but not at the moment. Sometimes I felt like why am I penny pinching and he got money to spend. So I have just signed up to my first triathlon at the ripe age of 37  after having done b**gger all for years apart from running after kids. So that was 44 quid plus some running/cycling/swimming clothes (£88) as I still have shoes but only tatty t-shirts. Already went for a test swim and run. I will definitely do this :j. So although the CC is on 0% it is ever increasing because of it. Mind games that need to stop.
Count down of T -5 days. I will take stock of what I got left in the house and try not to spend any more money apart from milk till Friday.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -

I'm 41, and have also signed up for my first triathon!
Got myself a trisuit from Aldi, which I saved 'reward points' for from my achievement charts, so I don't feel too guilty about spending on myself for a change. If you need one, there might still be some in stock from last week. Really good and only £14!Keep reading books!

wishus and thriftylass thumbs up for the triathlon. Don't feel guilty for the signup fee and/or trisuit. They are all for a good cause and it ticks one of our goals this month which is to MOVE."There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150

Great, which one are you doing? I will need to wear my wetsuit (if it still fits, lol) as the swim part is through open scottish sea in September to an island  and then the cycle and run is on that island. But all their running gear looks quite good. Might have a look soon and I can always send back the stuff I ordered. ThanksDEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
Stowe Gardens, Thriftylass! It's a short event, and in theory the water should be warm enough to not need a wetsuit, but I've got a shorty one that will do. bizarrely, I have no hat or goggles, but I think OH will lend me hisKeep reading books!
