Who videos themselves opening a package?

Someone who is uber-excited to receive their Roley I guess, but necessarily not someone who waits 3 days before even looking at it. ;)

I did this once when I ordered a £700 item off ebay for a friend-I did on the doorstep with the postman there

But opening in front of the postman is totally different to what the OP did.
You would have had an independent witness who would be able to verify that the package hadn't been tampered with by you prior to opening it where as the OP has admitted having their package for a few days before opening it on video and even then, only after removing one layer of the wrapping that it was delivered in.

Another question is where was the package kept between the time it was delivered and when it was opened? and could anyone else have had access to it?

Yes, I was responding to the comment" who videos themselves opening a package" I was saying I did and many others do

So assuming the op has been very naive , (their story is so unbelievable naive it's almost believable ), and assuming that the seller would be aware of the possibility the buyer might video the whole opening in front of the postman( he didn't! ) and that the op could in any case leave negative feedback saying he's received an empty box( disastrous for the sellers future business)!, it's looking like the loss occurred in the postal system imho.
Does soolin know though if this is advisable to send a £8000 item by post in this way?

One question to the op. What was your train of thought when filming the unwrapping of the already opened parcel? What event were you trying to avoid?

Regardless of what Soolin thinks, RM themselves will only insure up to £2500, I can't think why the seller posted it like this in the first place or why OP accepted this delivery method.

It looks this way to me as well, especially since the OP has stated that when they collected the shipment the outer wrapping just had their surname and postal code on it and it was only under this that the full address (and presumably the SD labels) were shown.

The seller claims it was sent in a tamper proof bag & then in a separate jiffy back inside. The seller has since shown me what the tamper proof bag looks like, I didn't receive this bag but just a grey bag with my surname / postcode which was filthy this was taped down by parcel tape (I disposed of this on the Friday due to it being so dirty prior to opening it three days later) inside was a white jiffy bag with full postal markings etc.
It's anyone's guess as to why the package had been over wrapped in the grey bag, but as this has now been discarded, it will be just about impossible to prove if tampering had occurred prior to it being collected.

The seller stated in their advert that the watch would be covered by their own insurers during delivery and if this was the case, there is no problem using Special delivery.

That's what I was enquiring about, whether this was a secure way to send something of this value. It's a massive amount of money to risk.what would have been a better option?
Edit- seller was insured so he was covered
  • In reality, it doesn't matter how the item is sent or whether or not there is enough insurance in place to cover any loss or damage as until the goods are delivered to the buyer they are at the sellers risk.
If the seller doesn't get enough insurance to cover the goods in transit then this is their choice and their risk.

Where does this leave the op here?
