The seller has since shown me what the tamper proof bag looks like, I didn't receive this bag but just a grey bag with my surname / postcode which was filthy this was taped down by parcel tape
That sounds like a damaged( opened?) item re packaged by Royal Mail.
Nobody would post an item with only a name and post code on it.

RM don't repackage.
I've had damaged parcels and letters that have been sealed in a postal bag with a sticker saying (something like) your item was damaged in transit, contact us if somethings been lost or damaged from inside.
Nice Mr Postman said the letter had likely been chewed by the sorting machine (looked more like a small dog'd get at it). That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

yup, which is a clear damage bag. Not repackaging.he seller claims it was sent in a tamper proof bag & then in a separate jiffy back inside. The seller has since shown me what the tamper proof bag looks like, I didn't receive this bag but just a grey bag with my surname / postcode which was filthy this was taped down by parcel tape (I disposed of this on the Friday due to it being so dirty prior to opening it three days later) inside was a white jiffy bag with full postal markings etc.0 -
You bought a watch. From some geezer on ebay. For 8 grand?! are you mad??!!! If I was spending that amount of money,I would go to a proper jewellers and buy it. wow!0

Someone pointed me in the direction of this thread, but as neither eBay nor paypal were involved in the sale I have very little of any use that I can say.
It looks like the only options are the s75 claim already mentioned, or, if the OP can get a geographic address for the seller -small claims. Realistically I'm not sure I would pin my hopes on either.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ouch, giving £8k to an anonymous address to a brand new company that's never returned accounts, whose other sales are 'best offer' (could be £1 shill sales), who sends watches uninsured through the post, it's not looking good.
(Text removed by MSE Forum Team) is the Companies House record for the director, maybe you can find him in the phone book somewhere nearby the anonymous mail drop. The address on companies house is a fairly unexciting property next to a pub in Darvel, next to a (former?) hairdresser.
Or if you want to spend a quid, go on companies house and download the shareholder information for the director, get his personal address.
Maybe it's fully legit, but I know for £8k I'd be looking at a real courier, or cash in person myself. If he really sold another watch for £25k and sent that uninsured through the post too, he must be at best very trusting.0 -
OP,
If you want the personal address for the owner of Edinburgh watches, send me a message and I'll pass it on to you.
I'm pretty sure that the details I've found are current.
For the forum administrators.
I found the address only by using information available in the public domain, and I didn't breach or cause any data protection laws to be broken.0 -

It occurs to me that whatever postal service you use, if someone intercepts it in the post and steals it- no insurance is going to cover you for that. And the op has thrown away the outer wrapper.you need to remove his name as its breaching the rules and the thread may be removed. i think the seller is legit . I see the op has now left a neg.edit-ebay has removed the neg now
I've got to say, if I was the seller -would I be happy to pay out £8000 in these circumstances-no.
If the seller is genuine-I'm
Pretty sure he is , and the op is telling the truth - I'm fairly sure he may be- what in these circumstances do others think should be done by the seller here?
Is it fair to expect the seller to pay out?
Should the seller have anticipated there was a tiny chance this might happen?
(Edit-seller now tells us the buyer wasTOLD not to open it if it looked tampered with.)
That buyer would throw away the wrapper and leave it for three days?!
What else could the seller of watches online have done to
Protect his customer from this outcome- he has got an online shop seperately- he must have thought out this business model and have been covered under normal circumstance .0 -
I know i shouldnt say this as it doesnt help the OP
BUT would anyone really spend 8k on a watch, pick the package up and not open it for 3 days however busy you are?
Op wasnt too busy to pick it up and it would have taken an extra 2 minutes to open the package and look to see if the correct watch was in the package.
Buying a rolex isnt an everyday purchase so to leave it unopened for 3 days just doesnt add up...to me
I like others think the OP will struggle to get anything out of this0 -
no advice to offer, i jusy feel for the OP, whether he was foolish or not, still a lot of cash to lose, i would be gutted beyond belief....i wish you well in your recovery OPPlan: [STRIKE]Finish off paying the remainder of my debts[/STRIKE].
[STRIKE]Save up for that rainy day[/STRIKE].
Start enjoying a stress debt free life.....now enjoying. thanks to all on MSE0
