The police searching your home proves nothing i'm afraid op

The OP saying the watch is not in their possession means nothing either. They had three days when they could have been busy passing it on. Do the police really search peoples homes on request?

Yeah, doesn't sound that believable does it, particularly as the only mention of it by the OP was in response to the sellers earlier post.

Read the previous page - the OP will not be replying any further to this thread.

As for legal proeedings I have already welcomed the Police into my home to conduct any search.

He didn't say the police had searched his home - just that he had welcomed them to do so.

To be honest, they wouldn't waste their time would they? The search would likely take a very long time for such a small item, and if the person who is suspected of the theft is inviting them to conduct a search then they are most unlikely to find it there are they?

I've read the thread right through, but still a little unclear on exactly what happened to the package on arrival.

    IIUC:

The OP received a very valuable item, that one would expect to be in a tamper proof bag. The bag did not have delivery/tracking details on, but was a scruffy/dirty bag sealed with packing tape. He removed that outer bag, without a witness present, nor did he video that opening. Inside was a jiffy bag with the delivery/tracking label on. No alarm bells rang as to how the parcel could possibly have been tracked with the barcode or whatever inside another bag. At that point the OP discarded the mysterious outer wrapping, and didn't bother to open the inner packing for another 3 days. When he did open the inner packing, he took the trouble to video the event.

One obvious question is how the OP was able to collect the package from the sorting office, and presumably sign for it, without the member of PO staff needing to scan the barcode or record the parcel number or whatever they do. A high value Special Delivery package with just a "name and postcode" on is just handed over to him without ceremony or further ado?

Forgive my nasty cynical view on this: If you wanted to scam a supplier in this way this would be a very good method. After receiving the item you tell the seller it has "arrived OK" but you'll look at it more carefully later. You then sell it on, before it can be recorded as stolen. Then a few days later, after carefully resealing the package, you video the opening ceremony. And to add credibility you then post a thread on MSE about how you've been scammed.

Now if I was Inspector Knacker of the yard I would be down the sorting office asking to see the CCTV of the OP collecting the parcel, and wanting to see exactly what it looked like when it was put in his hands...

But then on the other hand - as the seller you would have to be incredibly wreckless to send an £8k item through the post, effectively uninsured.
