MSE News: How to beat Sky price hikes

Just saved £70/month following the tips. To be fair I'm pretty good at that sort of thing anyway but just kept going and eventually we got there and I figured that was probably all they'd be giving up!
Perhaps it might help others if you said what your package was and is now? For all we know you cancelled most of what you watch.0 -
I contacted Sky via Resolver. What I wanted: a (free) recordable box to replace the non-recordable box in my bedroom which I contend never worked properly, and free HD on my movies (price £5 a month) I later also asked for a reduction in order to counteract the £3.50 a month rise. After a few phone calls I obtained the following:
New Sky recordable box for bedroom (value around £189 I think)
Free installation for said box
Free HD movies (value £5 a month)
4 months refund on the non-recordable box they had given me.
Total value around £293 + free installation!!!!
It has to be said I had to bargain hard to obtain these concessions. You need to have the time – and the stomach – for some tough negotiations. This might not be for you if you have a full time job! By the way, if you threaten to switch to Virgin - this seems to be the magic word, and they will bend over backwards to stop you doing it.0 -
PS I didn't have any charges than an unavoidable £6-something, and my 2nd box is recordable. Plus my calls are 'anytime'.
Well done all

I suggest you approach them online via Resolver. That way you can briefly explain your goals in writing – they will then call you. See my post of 28 May to see what I obtained (over £293 worth of concessions). It has to be said, though, this was not achieved in one phone call – more like 5 or 6 phone calls. So if you want some big reductions I’m afraid you need to be prepared for some protracted negotiations. Threatening to switch to Virgin seems to work a treat – you can practically hear them quaking in their shoes!0

I cancelled my Sky contract and then a week later they phoned to get me back. Negotiated 5 months free and 5 months £12 a month. Saved over £450 :rotfl:0

Hi I have been with Sky for 12 mths which is now up. I have rung up and haggled with them and they have offered:
Sky Family Package £24
Line Rental £9.99
Fibre £7.00
so £40.99 per month in total.
Is this comparable to the offers others have been getting?0 -
I've just got off the 'phone with Sky having cancelled; for Sky Family, Sky Sports and HD the best they could offer is £60.60 per month which is hardly any better than I'm currently paying.
(Currently pay £64.65 for Family, Sports and Movies which includes a 10% discount).
I don't know how this compares with others' experiences, but I'm off to pastures new if this is the best they can do.
And the call lasted less than fifteen minutes too.0
