yes, sorry, i think Xstyle is thinking the way that i am. I don't want the Amex-payment card from Barclaycard or MBNA because where i can use Amex i would just use Amex Amex:D

    Bang on !!
Isn't the Amex Amex a slightly worse deal being tired starting at 0.5% admittedly depends on the amount you spend on it because it can go upto 1.25% CB over 10k

No mate, Planteria & I have both gone for the £25 annual fee Amex Amex, that pays 1.25% flat rate all the way through from scratch (after the 3 months at 5%).
So better off using that. I'll carry 2 cards for the extra cash back (well, 3 inc the debit card!).

I only use cash for taxi's, even a chewing gum purchase goes onto the credit card!

Put it through the shredder, they can have it back! Account CLOSED!
Has anybody got an early statement date and therefore been paid their final cashback yet? Did you phone to cancel? Are they doing anything to try and keep you? Given some are still going to get 0.5% I could see that potentially being offered to those of us that are losing it completely if they want to try and keep us as customers. Or they might be quite happy to get rid completely.

Good question - I was going to ask the same thing, but I am probably more concerned with how busy their call centre will be rather than what they will offer me. Can't be bothered with Cap1 any more...

Keep the card not use it, but keep it for the extras e.g. Credit monitoring

I really can't see Cap1 doing anything to retain (some) customers. I suspect that the customers remaining with 0.5% CB, will be the ones that occasionally use the card overseas and/or don't always pay their full balance every month. That way they are getting some revenue back for the 0.5%CB.

I am not in their eyes a good customer, and neither I guess are most on this forum, we make them very little. So why would they want you to stay ?

It doesn't really matter anyway, Amex and Barclays Combo, Cap1 are now surplus to requirements.

different deal for me, sorry, but i had the old Amex Blue card, and then upgraded/reapplied for the 'Platinum Cashback Credit Card'. they say i have been a 'member' since 2004, but not sure if that was when i opened my first Amex account, or when i opened this account. mine is no fee. and tiered 0.5/1.0/1.5%.

....but yes, our thoughts are aligned re. favouring Amex Amex above all else;)

Thanks for that, Yes it's a good card and a good deal for highish spenders, my spending pattern doesn't warrant the annual fee, but it will be good for couples or even better for families...

    Cheers,

Yeah you didn't receive any letter did you ?

    Still earning at CB @ 1% ?

I guess you won't know until this months statement... Weird to say the least, you are Cap1's only valued customer! :T

Very little is still better than nothing. I imagine a fair few will keep the card with 0% back under inertia, but those that will leave if they don't get any cashback may still be worth keeping at 0.5%, albeit marginally. Only Cap1 know for sure.

I agree it's probably unlikely though.

This post brought back memories for me :)
I had the Blue Amex back in 2004. I had just started my first job. It paid a flat 1% cashback (or was it 0.5%?). My current Platinum dates to back then and I also have the 'member since 04' on my card. My current Plat is also tiered to 1.5%.
I wonder if they will try and move us to the new one gradually...
