MSE News: Major price hikes coming for TalkTalk broadband, TV & home phone customers

Not at all, because they are not fixed price contracts. TT has not signed up to the 'Fixed Means Fixed' pledge organised by Which? I believe only Three, Tesco \Mobile, Vodafone and Virgin Mobile have, so far.
What about EE ?
Have they not signed up - because the whole thread on EE contracts (and whether users are entitled to leave EE on price hikes) was based on the fixed contract pledge0 -
I'm with talktalk and as long as you contact them within 30 days of receiving the price rise email, you can cancel your contract without penalty (I have done so) x0

I phoned TalkTalk to cancel my contract on 6th May, shortly after receiving the email advising of price increases. I was offered a credit on my account to offset the additional cost, but I declined and insist on cancellation. I was assured that there would be no contract breakage charges, and that a prepaid envelope would be dispatched to collect the set top box.
Despite the lengthy call, today I have received an email advising that there will be a contract breakage fee of £215.84 for my essentials package.
Not happy. TalkTalk's administration is consistently horrific, right to the very end. I'll be glad to see the back of them, and their forever spiralling charges. My farts hospitalize small children0 -
OK, so TalkTalk are raising my Essentials TV package by £1.50, an increase of almost 19%. Apparently I'm entitled to leave within 30 days of receiving notice but I'm part way through an annual line rental agreement that I paid up front. What happens to that if I leave? Do I get a pro rata discount or did I sell my soul when I took that? Also do I have to return the YouView box or can I keep it?
Also, very annoyingly, I ordered a new SIMO contract with TalkTalk just prior to getting the price rise email. I knew this was only being offered to existing customers but apparently you have to remain a customer for the length of the contract to receive the 'discount'. I can cancel it within the cooling off period otherwise I'll be charged a whopping fee to leave. Also during the sign up I tried to get cashback on the deal via Quidco only for TalkTalk to direct me to call a number to complete the deal (meaning no cashback).
Weighing up my options whether to stay. I can ditch it all in about a year's time so may take this as the least worst option. But I feel TalkTalk have taken me for a ride and I'm not happy with them at all. They have used a combination of disingenuous marketing, confusing Ts&Cs and staggered contract periods for the various products I have with them to make it not worth leaving. Dirty tricks won't win you genuinely loyal customers.0 -
I'm in contract with them for Fibre BB.
In a previous dispute with them, I was allowed out of contract, and I got to keep my Youview box (although I suspect this may have been more down to negligence on their part, than by design).
Does anyone else offer a better deal than TT's post-rise prices. £1.50 is a lot, relatively speaking, but I suspect they may still be cheapest. However, I am tempted to leave just to get out of contract, in case I want to move house.
edit: Looks like I can get 6 months free from Plusnet, plus cashback and then the same price as TT are planning to go to.0 -
Ive just had the price increase email 28 days into an 18 month contract!!! Not happy
Was told to call customer services if I want to terminate and that there would be no early termination fees.
I signed to a half price for 12 months, normally £3.50 so £1.75, they now put it up to £5.
The ironic part is that theyre advertising on their website that its now FREE for 12 months, so should I cancel then re sign to get it free instead of paying the price increase?0 -

If you are outside your minimum period of contract - you have every right to do this, I do a similar thing with my car and house insurance, every year (re-sign up as a NEW customer) to benefit from cash back via Quidco - so yes a good idea - as long as you are willing to lose your internet service for a day or two between cancelling and starting again
But - is this not a good time to move away from TT ?0 -
Im not outside my 18 month contract, Im only 28 days into it, but because they changed the terms I can cancel without penalty within 30 days of them notifying me, at least thats what they told me!0

If you read the thread see post 2 ,your see thats correct.0 -
I'd also welcome any advice about whether TalkTalk will refund line rental paid in advance. I'm fed up of their price rises and poor service. However with 6 months of pre-paid line rental unused am I trapped despite the price increase.
Thanks for any advice before I take TalkTalk 'customer service' on!0
