The wearing of shorts is said not to be respectful to the locals, & it's a bit like wandering around in your underwear  I think the tourists wear them though, apart from the die hards. Plus I'm at that age now where I'm thinking that I need my shorts to be that bit longer as no one wants to see the top of my legs, but if they're brown they look so much better.

I have memories of being in Egypt & seeing this young girl walking around Valley of the Kings with shorts stuck up the crack of her a**, now that was OTT :( You can also get lots of unwanted attention too, no matter what your age, they'll stare at your ankle like it's a massive boob.

Ah well, I've had a final trying on session, & the price tags have all been cut off. I'll be packing soon!

And for my next trip ....... Next trip is next month but looking ahead and trying to decide if I want to visit Vilinus in Lithuania in the summer or wait til December and make it a Christmas market trip. Just be a long weekend two or three nights in an apartment in the old city. My grandparents fled the city in 1900 so I have always wanted to go and walk in their shoes :)

You SHOULD go Duchy. Do you know more about your history? Are you able to try locate where they used to live (if you have this info?)? I think it will be a magical trip. Don't keep putting it off, GO GO GO!

I've been to the Israeli side of The Dead Sea and it's well worth a visit. After bathing you'll need a long shower and even then you won't get rid of all of the salt. Getting a drop of water in your eye isn't exactly a lot of fun, though, so you'd need to be careful.

I took a day trip from Eilat to Petra and Wadi Rum and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Eilat was hot and sunny but Petra was neither. I was lucky that I opted to wear jeans and not shorts because it was absolutely freezing and then it started to rain. Torrential freezing rain.

As I said, though, it was a fantastic day despite this.

I really don't see the appeal of Eilat and I can only think that Aqaba is similar. The beaches aren't up to much and the water is very cold. The locals think that it's the bees knees though.

Yep you're right, not a lot to do in Aqaba.
