How long - not sure, I'm under 30 so going to do a working hol via in NZ (I've already done my Oz one 5 years ago) So its how ever long the money lasts
Route - India for 3 months, I'm hoping to be selected for a volunteer project its expensive but it just seems right, right timing, location etc, then Thailand (either north Thailand or south), Cambodia, Poss Venetian (not too sure atm), If I don't volunteer in India then Japan, back to Thailand to do the other side.
Bali and Maylasia are possibilities depending on funds.... :A
3 months in oz, I have friends in Perth so go and see them and a bit of western Oz then (these are Wish list) Darwin, Red Centre, I worked at Ayers Rock resort when I was there but would love to go as a tourist!! then to do the east coast properly!!
Into NZ find a job for a bit then travel around the islands.
I haven't really got a plan coming back, I'm going to leave enough money with my parents for a flight back if I run out of money.
Looking at possible flights, the best to match my list seems to be Emirates multi-stop: London-Mumbai-Bangkok-Sydney-Auckland for around £1000. But looking though momondo.co.uk (Brilliant site) at single flights.
So I have a budget of around £9000 from saving and selling my beloved car.
Just going to go with the flow and see where it takes me!!
xx
What work did you do in Oz? I'm tempted sometimes as it would be a break and there always carers needed in our area.:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

I'm female and I never know what I'm taking until I'm packing, usually the night before...... so I'm curious to know how in heavens name you already know what you're packing for JUNE?????? Do you have a "holiday outfit list"?
I'm giggling at WHAT LISTS?????
I have a spreadsheet for planning my trips and I copy and paste useful links etc. under excursions column, never a list?
Oh MasterPoo, I love your name, but must admit I thought you were a man, sorry
I can barely breathe thinking of you not packing until the night before your hol! Although I no longer do it I used to do a mock pack at least 6 months beforehand, anyone else? It was a pack, an unpack, a repack ... I've since improved from packing a month before to a week before.
There's certain clothes that I wear on holiday, like shorts that I'd never wear at home, & long summer floaty dresses that barely get worn here, also new stuff that I buy ready.
I must start & do spreadsheets as it'll be so much easier I think. Although I enjoy doing lists of clothes to take, lists of what I'll wear on what day, lists of stuff to do, lists of really important stuff in case phones, passports, iPad goes missing ....
anniehoward, wishing your son all the very best! That's why I travel so much these days x
janiebaby, certainly will do.[/QUOTE]
Im another to pack a day or so before going. In fact every time I go away my friend normally laughs at me and keeps track on facebook while I'm up at 1am packing get lol. Did it before working at summer camp too, I never learn:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

Dawyldthing - I started off in Sydney and did door to door selling I had found on Gumtree, I was really REALLY bad at it though !!! I got stuck in Sydney running out of money fast!! I also worked as a swimming teacher and cleaning the hostel.
There is an amazing website called seek.com.au which most companies in Oz use for recruitment and managed to get a job working at Ayers Rock resort. That was a life changer!!!!
I went out as part of housekeeping as I had a drivers licence so could drive the golf buggy. I'm not the fittest of people but I loved the job and the pay was really good even on the basic salary it was $16 an hour and paid standard 40 hour weeks they had staff accommodation which was $80 a week taken out of the pay before tax, meal provided on shift etc.
Within 3 months of being there I had paid back my Overdraft and my parents (who I had to borrow money from to get the fights out to the rock) I even got a second job while I was there that I loved working out in the desert giving star talks and working telescopes, part of my undergrad is astronomy. The skys there are AMAZING!!!!!!!
There was also a fantastic community feeling working there and 2 of my best friends now I met there
There are so many jobs I'm guessing your under 30 so can get a working holiday visa?? A friend has just come back from her second year where she had worked in a couple of shops, and on a farm on her first year (to be able to extend the visa)
Another friend who is still there 5 years later is an accountant.
If you want any more detailed info send me a PM
xxThanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0 -
A MOCK PACK......dying with laughter!
Do you actually stick to your lists though?
I might be laughing at you, but I suspect you do not over pack like I do, and you probably also end up wearing EVERYTHING in your bag? I came back with items that I didn't wear, instead we did laundry twice whilst away.
An invaluable lesson that I learnt on our last trip, is to pack for my 20 year old son. He came away on an 18 day holiday with 8 t-shirts! OMG, I almost killed him, WHO DOES THAT?????!!!! I refused to buy him others because I know he has cupboards full of t-shirts. So from now on I will be inspecting his bag before we go on holiday which just adds to the drama!
Who does that?? Erm, we do!
We have packing lists and last time we went away, for a 3 week road trip, we were well under the luggage limit and nothing came back unworn. For 3 weeks, we took about 6 t-shirts/tops each, 3 pairs of shorts, one pair of trousers, underwear, swimming stuff, 1 pair trainers, 1 pair sandals, 1 pair flip flops, 1 hoodie, 1 waterproof, 4 pairs socks. We knew we would want to buy souvenir t-shirts while we were there and so we planned for that. We took enough underwear for one week and kept washing undies through in the shower as we went along.
If stuff comes back unworn, you didn't need it!
Having said that, I did supervise the kids packing as you never know!"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -

Yep, we always did exactly the same
But
I have a friend who packs 1 of everything for every day that she's away, plus a few extras 'for choice'! :eek:2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I always wonder what on earth people have got in those enormous cases they are struggling to drag across the airport. As soon as I'm on holiday, I really don't care about wearing lots of different clothes - I never wear make up either, unlike at home.
My sister confessed to being an overpacker last year - she rang me for packing advice and it has revolutionised her holiday packing!!
(my kids were slightly mortified when I hung all our undercrackers out to dry in Death Valley but they were done in an hour)"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. You ain't heard the best yet, I take photos of myself in all of my clothing (the mirror lies but the camera don't), to see how I look
Yes, I stick to my lists.
I've been known to do 12kg for 2 weeks, but I average 15kg-20 kg max. Despite being able to take 30kg with Emirates, sadly I've never managed it. But the last few holz I've come back with clothes unworn, so I'm cutting down on my evening wear. I'm too MSE to wash clothes on holiday.
Mr Duke does the opposite & packs 29 pairs of thick wooly socks, 45 tops .... I just pack both cases now myself, he can't fold properly eitherI cannot do creased clothes! Plus I mix our clothes then if one case goes missing I'll still have stuff to wear.

It's one of the things that bothers me slightly about the prospect of travelling solo, that if my one case goes astray I'm stuck2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Last year me and my mum went to Egypt for 11 days and fitted both sets of clothes in one suitcase with a bit more in our carry on as I didn't see the point in paying twice for 2 suitcases when I knew we would manage and was still within limits. A few were shocked with that too, but I have to carry it all so would rather take the one:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:
