I assume you want to go for more than 6 weeks to Oz?

Have you approached HR about this? Career break or unpaid leave, have your broached the subject with them? I once worked for an organisation like that years ago, REALLY !!!!ed me off that I couldn't go on holiday for longer than 2 weeks!

[STRIKE]You could lie and go on sick leave for duration of holiday?? Set Facebook to private or remove yourself off social media etc....... Can you tell I;ve thought about this[/STRIKE]:cool::cool:

Disclaimer: I'm in no way shape of form telling you to lie to your work to go on an amazing holiday!

I've asked my boss and she said 3 weeks normally but any longer and it has to go to the more senior manager. Not asked about a career break yet, but I know a few years ago someone was off 6 weeks for a honeymoon. I think they probably will say no, so then got to decide what to do, but for years it's all I've ever wanted to go and my mum would tick the house over so wouldn't need to worry. I'm thinking of possibly doing a contiki trip in Australia and New Zealand as I don't know anyone to travel with and dont know if I could do it on my own anymore to be honest, probably could a few years ago but I think I've lost my bottle.

Arr I've dropped it in a few times that I want to get time off. It's just whether they would grant it off as I don't mind the job, but if they won't give it me off Id probably make sure I have enough savings behind me and go a bit later next year and leave work

One of the times I went to OZ we went at the time the AL year finished\started so we had 3 weeks of one year + 2 weeks of the next year. This also fell over Easter break so we had and extra 4 days.

    Sorted.

Our annual leave runs January to December. I've been tempted to go for new year but it's going to cost a lot more flight and accommodation wise so think I'll end up going later on, hopefully mid January though.

Don't leave it too late to discuss with work, the sooner you know where you stand the better for you and for them. You could start planning accordingly. GOOD LUCK, whatever you do.

Have you tried pricing it up yourself to see the difference in price?

The only thing I hate about organised tours is that I have to stick to a time schedule, not my idea of a relaxed holiday?

I'm off to Geneva in less than 2 weeks, just back from a wee couple of nights in Loch Lomond national park (OH was Munro bagging and I had a massage). The week before that we were in London with my 2 oldest nieces at Harry Potter Studios.

We will go away in the UK again towards the end of the year. This was supposed to be a no holidays year as we are saving for a wedding, a house and a new car. Then we decided to go to London to see Harry Potter, then my friend invited us up to hers for her birthday, then a different friend invited us to Switzerland for her birthday and then OH bought a voucher for glampimg!

Next year we will either get married abroad (Florida) or put our holiday fund towards a new house (boooo). We are also taking my sisters kids to Disneyland Paris at some point so that sis and bro in law can go on holiday for their 10th wedding anniversary.

There's a seperate trip for around £1000 where the only difference is ill be able to just go on any coach, but then there's the hostel costs so may save a few hundred, but it's deciding what to do. I know someone I met in America did one in South Africa and enjoyed it, but like you said it's a whistle stop of places so still not sure either way

So what is your happy medium to book your holidays Duke?

I've spent most of this afternoon pricing up flights for Dec and 2016? AMAZED that we could fly Virgin to Miami upper class (or whatever they call it) for just over £3000 exDub! That's £1000 pp!!!

Now I have to decide if losing avois points is worth it??

It varies for me MasterPoo, I may see a bargain & book, then again I may decide to visit a certain country & just keep looking for a few months. Frequently I change my mind throughout this process. Then I can barely breathe when I'm about to book :o & feel at a loss of what to do next. So then I do the lists, & lists of lists ....

A South African friend of mine did a Contiki tour to USA 3 years ago, she LOVED it. She did make friends with others on the trip and they split the cost of 4 nights they had free in NYC by going to Atlantic City.

i was recently in Australia ( Melbourne ) for 3 weeks and been back a few days & have already booked a holiday for later in the year , going to Los Angeles ( 4th time in 3 years ) although like last time i am using it to go elsewhere as its a lot cheaper , this time i am heading down to San Diego having previously flown into LA and gone on to both San Francisco & Las Vegas as its like £200 cheaper than flying to those places direct from heathrow
