We are off to Bali and Hong Kong later this year in September , it's our tenth wedding annivesary so it's 11 days in Bali and 3 days in Hong Kong on the way back . Cannot wait , and it's my first long haul holiday , I've always been to Greece and EuropeThe original janiebaby0

Looks fab! I've barely touched the surface of the USA - though one of the two areas I have been to is Hawaii (Honolulu and Kauai).
Actually, I've spent today sneaking in an extra little trip for next year - will now be spending 4 nights in Amsterdam about 11 months from nowAnother first for me!
YAAAY to sneaking in extra holidays!:T:T
Did you stay in hotels or rent a villa/apartment? We need to be based where my boys can enjoy motorised watersports and where there is lots to do. Someone commented that Maui is dead so avoiding that. I want to see volcano, relax, hike, and enjoy watersports, which would you recommend?

Bali swooooon. Which hotel? Another destination on my bucket list. I'm hoping to see China and Japan on my way to Oz in 2017.0 -

Great destinations for a first long haul trip!0 -
Why does everyone book so far in advance? I find that once I've booked I can't wait to go, & if it's too far in advance I lose the will to live. Plus I love to research places & get all excited over it, but again once booked I get a sort of flat feeling
I found Maui to be OK, we took a bus ride to Lahaina which was quite nice. We flew to the Big Island for the day just to see the volcano, so glad we didn't stay there as it was cold & wet! But then I've not been anywhere else in Hawaii to compare. I won the trip from off here
Bali for me next, staying in Sanur for 4 nights & Ubud for 10 :j
No matter what people talk about I manage to turn it around to discuss holz, he goes mad at me :-(0 -

Nearly 20 years since we were in Hawaii so probably can't help much. We stayed in a hotel and hired a car whilst in Kauai. Only did 1night in Honolulu so we could visit Pearl Harbour.
Don't remember it very well due to jetlag from travelling half way around the world and quarter of the way back again in 9/10 days.0 -

So what is your happy medium to book your holidays Duke?
I've spent most of this afternoon pricing up flights for Dec and 2016? AMAZED that we could fly Virgin to Miami upper class (or whatever they call it) for just over £3000 exDub! That's £1000 pp!!!
Now I have to decide if losing avois points is worth it??:eek:0 -
I'm hoping to go to Oz early next year but need to decide what's best from 3 options
1) give up my job and try and get a new one when I get back (but that's easier said than done)
2) try and persuade work to give me a career break
3) try and use all my annual leave in 1, but I've been told that normally can only get 3 weeks off and I wouldn't mind 6, so it's either a lot of persuasion or one of the other options.:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

This year though we're thinking maybe somewhere in the uk, but not sure where. As we've got my nan that lives with us and no one to look after her, so would need to plan accordingly:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

I assume you want to go for more than 6 weeks to Oz?
Have you approached HR about this? Career break or unpaid leave, have your broached the subject with them? I once worked for an organisation like that years ago, REALLY !!!!ed me off that I couldn't go on holiday for longer than 2 weeks!
[STRIKE]You could lie and go on sick leave for duration of holiday?? Set Facebook to private or remove yourself off social media etc....... Can you tell I;ve thought about this[/STRIKE]:cool::cool:
Disclaimer: I'm in no way shape of form telling you to lie to your work to go on an amazing holiday!:eek:0 -

One of the times I went to OZ we went at the time the AL year finished\started so we had 3 weeks of one year + 2 weeks of the next year. This also fell over Easter break so we had and extra 4 days.
Sorted.:cool:0
