SSE broadband feedback

Hi,
You can retain your BT email address; you have to switch product toBT Premium Mail or something. I'm told cost is £1.50 / month. Hope this helps.0 -
I think every company charges a set up call charge and all I have seen are MORE than SSE. They are slow to set you up as I been waiting six weeks but will be connected Friday 12th so have been left without phone and broadband for 2 weeks now. I do believe that the complex terms and conditions are for once in the customers favour as it's FREE broadband for TWO years, well above the 12 and 18 month contracts for line and broadband so you can always walk after two years after paying next to nothing.0

Having a bloody nightmare getting this switched over, just both old provider and SSE, old provider has not received any instruction to take over broadband yet, although phone line is due to switch on 10th. Was told by SSE to call them back then. They received my MAC code about a month ago.0

Mine was flawless. I went with SSE as I saw the offer and they already supply my gas and electricity. They had to send out a BT engineer to install a landline - no connection fee; a few days later the router arrived; a few days after that my broadband was up and running. Speed is fine, I'm on the 'up to 17MBs' plan and it seems to be a consistent 13MBs, day or night. Apparently, I'm very close to getting the best speeds according to the engineer.
I understand that the router isn't very good - but I got a NetGear extender on Amazon and now my broadband is fine anywhere in my house.
I probably won't be using the landline much, but at least it's there.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Transfer of Broadband and Phone, My experience
End of April tried to transfer from Tesco to SSE on the web only to be told by pop box that I can't do it online and to call them which I did. I was then informed the BT openreach line I had installed by Bt was the wrong type as Tesco use a special type and there would have to be a change made in the exchange to a normal BT line. This would be done at no charge to me.
1st May
Got letter from SSE telling me I need a MAC code before they can transfer service, I phoned Tesco for and was told this is not needed as the Phone and Broadband was moving to a new supplier. This is a rule OFCOM had imposed so why did SSE not know this?
Also in the letter is stated I would receive two separate letters telling me the dates hone and broadband will switch as the start dates will be different. I HAVE STILL NOT HAD THESE LETTERS.
8th May
Got a letter from SSE asking to contact them because they were missing important information from me, after holding on and listening to some muse for over 15 min spoke to someone who confirmed they had all the info they needed and ignore the letter, no mention about the time I had wasted.
14th May
Letter from Tesco informing the leaving date of the 29th May and the service will cease
29th (Friday) Phone switched as expected when I checked the phone could make outgoing calls but when called from my mobile could not ring in, just number not recognized message. Called SSE they again after some time spoke to someone who confirmed the service had switched and my number stayed the same (i knew this as the mobile showed my home number when I called it) he then ran some tests and said he will need to pass this to BT and I had to arrange to have half days holiday the Tues 2nd as I would need to be in for them, If I missed them I would have to pay £130 for a missed call, but he did say the problem will be looked at from their end and if they get the problem sorted he would ring and could cancel the leave. They did not get it sorted.
2nd June
BT turned up plug in a test unit checked the line as said there was no fault with my equipment the problem is in the exchange and he would have to pass it back as he can't do stuff inside exchanges now, I had suspected this and told the Guy from SSE when I was on the phone it worked fine unit the switchover. Test again after a few hours of the BT leaving and was now working.
4th (thurs) June Got router, with instructions not to connect to phone line till I get the letter from, the one I have never had.
Waited till Saturday still no letter so plugged in router as this was the same type Tesco used which was preset with login etc and hoped... it works.
9th May tried to setup online account for bills etc, they send the password needed to login and set up by POST I don't hold a lot a faith in getting this also.
All in All NOT IMPRESSED with SSE so far, they might me cheap but a drink a brewery comes to mind... it's now the 10th and still No Letters.0 -
I got the same letter;
"Got a letter from SSE asking to contact them because they were missing important information from me"
When I rang them they said that the system automatically churns these out and they were sorry but you still have to ring them or the system doesn't allow progression.0 -
So I signed up for this 7 weeks ago, and still don't have internet, and don't know when I will get it
. I rang up last week, and it turns out that it was put on hold because I apparently failed my credit rating, which they were meant to inform me about a month before. What happened was that I got a letter telling me to ring them a month before, and the person who answered my call told me it was a mistake and I did not need to call them. But now I know that it wasn't a mistake, & therefore I wasn't told that nothing was happening because I needed to contact them about my credit rating. I was told to get my credit report from Experian, so I have now done that and discovered that I have an excellent credit rating!! So I am very unhappy with SSE at the moment.

Still no internet transfer, so now paying for my old broadband service, as well as this deal. Can't get through on the phone to SSE, after waiting 20mins on chargeable hold.0

We're thinking of moving to SSE as our price with fuel broadband has just gone up. Tried negotiating with fuel broadband but they could only offer me £15 discount as a one off and didn't seem that interested in keeping me!
My current hesitation with SSE is that they told us we may not be able to keep our landline number - has anyone else experienced this? My mind is mentally trying to go through all the things I'd have to change, as I normally put a landline down instead of a mobile...
Any experience with this would be appreciated!

I am just off the phone to SSE to transfer from BT.
No MAC code required now for transfer (although I have one).
They said phone service would be transferred in 2 - 3 weeks and ADSL broadband in 4 weeks.
I want to upgrade to fibre but not available till 8th July - but no connection fee and free upgrade when it becomes available.
I have signed up £15 line rental, £5 anytime call packages and for non inclusive calls there is a 13.05p set up charge to 084/087/09/118 numbers - think this is going to be common across all companies. Anytime pretty similar to BT although wont have the smart talk app.
Caller display is £3.25 per month -which is steep - but not given the discounted BB and line rental and anytime is less than BT.
BB - normally £18 per month for ADSL unlimited - £10 per month discount for having Phone & BB & £8 per month discount for 2 yrs as introductory offer.
There are cancellation fee's and early exit fee's. Everything was explained but I write slower than I hear and a welcome pack is coming with everything detailed.
It was clear I would not lose any service at all - just have to change routers on day of transfer of ADSL.
Have not read whole thread but read some posts.
Call out charge - would be applied if fault inside house d/s of master socket regardless of ISP. It's an openreach charge - £129.99 was last price I saw.
Has anyone experienced BT Customer Service? To be fair I've had terrible (India) and very good (UK call centre).
They quoted me speed of 6 MBps - I get almost 7. They mentioned fair usage policy and most ISP's either throttle or you see speeds drop at peak times.
I thought call was good with everything clearly explained. Now we will see how the transfer goes.
Big firm starting to try and break into BB & Phone market - they will want it to go well - but bound to be some teething problems and glitches - only time will tell.
Looks like a real serious attempt to break into this market.
BT prices now high to pay for sport. Like Sky. There is a place for a major player with lower prices offering voice/data only.0
