SSE broadband feedback

So what you're saying is you HAVE to take up their monthly line rental, at whatever cost they chose to charge, after 12 months? If you don't, you're in breach of their free broadband contract and they can sue you for the remainder of that contract - £4 a month, or £24.
I think this point should be made clear in Martin's recommendation.
you don't have to take it after the minimum term, however not doing so will mean you will have to pay the none discounted price on the broadband aspect - which as stated i think is £10 a month discount for having the line rental with them, this would not be breach of contract, but them applying the contract terms of your broadband. maybe simpler to put it this way
broadband base price £18
Line Rental discount -£10
promotional discount -£8
Overall offer price £0
therefore if you no longer have line rental with them, you would need to pay £10 a month for the broadband, due to not having the line rental discount, as the promotional offer discount would still be applicable (as i have read it).
still as stated previously, if they was to increase the line rental after 12 months, they would have to be careful as too big a price rise will cause an exodus of customers. and even rising it to a similar level to the other big companies (£16 a month) would mean it being a 33% price rise - which not many people would be happy with, therefore creating a wave of bad publicity.Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

Would I have this same problem every time I changed broadband supplier, or is their another way!

I am interested in whether SSE allows the CPS override providers such as 18185. The 0800 is not an option as it is far too much hassle, I used that while with Telewest (now Virgin) and don't want to go back to using that now. 1p/min is not cheap, many VOIP services are far less than that.0 -
A speedy response from SSE.
Notes :
1) a Positive confirmation that CPS is not blocked
2) an absolutely minimal statement containing no guarantee that this will not change at any time in the future.
3) I am not Mr Webb. Probably a copy/paste from a previous enquiry.
Summary :
This is not solid enough for me to switch to SSE.

This is disappointing compared with good customer service for Gas & Elec.Dear Mr Webb
Thank you for your email and sorry for the delay in my response.
I have spoken to our service manager and they have confirmed that the CPS service provided by 18185 will work with our telephone service.
I hope this helps to clear up the query for you Mr Webb.0 -
I think SSE are in this for the long haul and will only increase prices very very gradually, they will have put a lot of investment into this and the phone and broadband will be subsidised, they don't want thousands leaving after investing in all the equipment and they know thats what will happen if they increase by too much.0

Took a leap into the unknown and my SSE broadband and telephone has been up and running for about a week. No complaints about the BB or phone service so far. In fact my broadband speed is now averaging 9.8 mb/s versus the 6mb/s I was previously getting on Tesco BB.
I had to complete my application over the phone as the system didn't recognise my number as valid due to paying Tesco for my line rental before. It took a few calls but the operatives I spoke to were all very helpful, although it can take a while to get through.
All in all, I'm pleased so far. BB is 50% faster and I'm saving £9 per month. If you're after basic broadband and don't really use your landline for outbound calls, £12 per month is great value compared to anything else on offer right now.0 -
T&C https://www.sse.co.uk/uploadedFiles/CoreMarketingSites/Assets/Documents/PhoneAndBB%202%20years%20BB.pdf You must remain with us for your broadband for the 2 year period to benefit from the 2 year discount
BB is 18 month contract, offer is for 2 years free BB, so to take the £12 LR, will you not end up having to be contracted for 3 years!!!0 -
Hi ioscorpio
The way I understand it is that the minimum contract length for both phone and BB is 18 months. After this you're free to switch. However the free broadband offer lasts for two years.
I order to keep the free broadband offer, you need an SSE phone line. So if after 18 months you decided to exercise your right to switch to BT for example, you would not be able to keep the free SSE Broadband on that line for the remaining six months of the broadband offer.0 -
Just a bit of feedback regarding the length of time it takes when you go with SSE.
I placed an order on the 27th April, was given a date of 22nd May for phone to go live and 7 days after the broadband would too. Seemed a fair while to wait, but I suppose there is a cooling off period etc.
Come 22nd no phone so rang them up. Was initially told it would be a few days, few days later was told it would be the 5th June for both.
Well today is the 5th, the phone is online now, but the Internet will not be activated till 6th. Great! Well not so great as the router hasn't even arrived so hopefully it will tomorrow.
Luckily this is a property that we have bought for our daughter to go to uni in August so time isn't an issue, but if you rely heavily on broadband (and to be honest who doesn't these days) I guess this could be an issue.
Customer service isn't that bad, they seem (and have said) that they are inundated with new customers. They also seem to take an age to find your details, they don't seem to be that slow when they write to you to tell you that you have gone 50p over your direct debit.
I will try to update this later in the week when we actually receive the product.0 -
I should also have mentioned that despite being an existing SSE customer i notice that they have run a credit check0

If you after fibre broadband only - it looks tempting.
If you want phone calls too - please carefully read T&C, as their tariff is full of rip-offs.
Apart from price per minute there is 13.5p set-up charge per call.
Call features are really overpriced and available only in bundles.
Of course if you're tempted by broadband price you can always say "thank you" by using VOiP for calling out, like I did when was Virgin media client. Multi-system phone (like Gigaset IP-series) can be really helpful - cofigured it to route all outgoing calls through VOiP. Virgin did not earn a penny on calls through whole my contract!
But this can be too much hassle for many.
It's also worthy to mention that SSE has history of mis-seling (and millions of pounds fines) and has been oficially named a "doorstep liars". This was few years ago and they could change customer services standards since then, but it's worthy to remember.0
