SSE broadband feedback
Comments

I've recently signed up to SSE and have an activation date of 8th June. I'm moving from BT to SSE's Ultrafast package (£21/month).
I've just set up a forum/website where I am going to post information that would be useful to others - such as speed test results, scans of any paperwork etc in the hope that we can set up a community of SSE Broadband users - as they don't have an official forum of their own.
The address is http://www.discussisp.com
I'm hoping this will be useful to allow fellow members to share speeds, any issues and we can help each other should any problems arise. If anyone has any suggestions or can help I would appreciate it. Collating information in one place I believe is key.
Any questions please feel free to contact me.0 -
The forum name suggests its for discussing ISPs not just one .0

I was going to include SSE in the name of the forum, but then I read about domains containing registered trademarks being taken over by the companies involved, so didn't want to risk it - hence the name https://www.discussisp.com
I could always add other ISP's to it I suppose in future, but it is initially intended to be a source for information just SSE Broadband related.0 -
I also have a date of the 8th of June. I've received a very limited amount of information and my direct debit doesn't seem to have been set-up, but I do have a router sitting waiting for the switch. I'm getting a pretty steady 30 + Mbps from BT, so I'm now awaiting with some apprehension what my 72 meg service is like!0

Just signed up yesterday for SSE 76MB deal with £120 odd TCB.
Currently on BT ADSL and getting 11Mb, Fibre just been made available in my area, so will see how it goes.
Can I ask where people are getting their estimated speed from before signing up, is it this?
YOUR BROADBAND SPEED IS (UP TO): 80.0MBPS
Your estimated access line speed is measured in megabits per second and based purely on the distance of your house to the nearest telephone exchange and does not take into account your computer, internal wiring, electrical interference and network traffic, all of which may affect your broadband speed. Your broadband speed may also vary at different times of the day.0 -
Just switched to SSE fibre. The general broadband changeover from BT was pretty seamless but I'm having great difficulty setting up my email. I can find no guidance on the SSE website - they just don't seem to be aware that this is a fundamental requirement. In fact their whole support function is quite pathetic.
I use an email address I've had for over 15 years and previous ISPs (with the notable exception of BT) haven't had a problem connecting this through their systems. When I rang them, SSE told me setting up email isn't a service they offer and that I should 'Google it to find out how to do it'. So I've transferred but can't send emails or see any way I'll be able to without losing my 15-year old email address. So far - not impressed.0 -
Your best off sorting your own email as it makes swapping ISPs easier.
There are various free email services.
Gmail is one.

@markeye
do you use an email client? if so have you changed the outgoing mail SMTP details & entered the correct settings in the "my server requires authentication"
sorry if you have, but that caused me headaches the last time i swapped isp0 -
Are you able to.explain what you mean by setting up email?
This should be setup on your PC and not have anything to do with your BB supplier0 -
Why do I have two different accounts on here
