You're talking about Greece? I don't think their economy is doing so well...

    talking of Fiestas

It always amazes me how many there are here in Spain

Its great to see all the community joining in !!

    Tony

Do you play bowls out there Tony? I hadn't considered the Alicante region before I looked at a map of the bowling clubs, it seems to have quite a few bowling clubs. If I can convince my wife, we may well come over and explore Alicante.

Hi it is very strange , but solar is very little used here .

I myself worked selling solar water heating systems for a long while here , and they work great providing nearly all hot water
But I have given it up now due to low sales and interest

I even noticed much more panels on UK roofs than here in Spain

I guess with the poor economy here people are just concentrating on essentials , like food , paying bills etc.

I may try again when things pick up , as it is law to fit panels on new builds

    Cheers Tony:):

    Hi Tony,

The reason why you dont see solar panels in Spain is because they are not backed up by the goverment. Also, you have to pay huge amounts of money to the big electric companies to use solar pannels.

So basically, it is not worth it

    Hi Chuck

I dont play bowls , but believe there are clubs in the area as you said.

Have a friend that plays petanca , that is very popular here , also plenty of golf courses

we have one 12 minuets away called Alenda golf

Yes Alicante is worth a look , it is central on the Costa Blanca so great for exploring up and down the coast

Pop by foe a coffee if your in the area

    Cheers Tony:)

Yes it is a shame , we use vacuum tubes to heat our water , they save us a fortune , in fact the water boils in the summer so we have to dump some in the pool !

    Cheers Tony:)

Tony, I hope you don't mind, but I would like to pick your brains. One of our concerns about buying over there, would be that the property would either be empty or possibly let out when we were not using it. Do you happen to know if it would be easy to rent it out cheaply, but not holiday lets, to one person/family for about 7 to 8 months per year. I say cheaply (probably about 66% of the market rent) because it would just be for peace of mind, to recover some/all expenses and less hassle than doing holiday lets.

i have a holiday home in villamartin. near the golf course on the valencias urbanisation and i can't wait to spend more time out there. at present (due to work) we only come out around 6 weeks of the year but i would love to spend a month at a time there. not sure i could live there permanently but certainly a few months a year would be fantastic.
the pace of life is great and it is MUCH cheaper than in the uk for day to day shopping and eating out.

Thanks for your positive outlook .

Yes living here is different from holidaying .

When we first came over it took about 6 months before we realised we wasn't on holiday !

We had a great time though , party's and boozing !

I dont know to much about long term rentals , a couple of friends have had problems with non payment .

I personally am not a fan of renting as you would have to lock away all your personal stuff like clothes etc.

But I guess it would be a good way to get some money in to pay for overheads.

    Cheers Tony

Normally the way it works is that if you want to rent the property, you charge less to a person or family that is gonna stay the whole year. i dont think that person or family would be happy if you kick them out after 8 months

Some people only want to rent a house on the coast during the summer season as they go there to work, so you charge more, becuase you know it is just for the season.

    Hope it makes sense?
