    Hi Chuck

We are in an area just in land of Alicante , so has good assess to the coast airport and city , it is also semi rural so good for walking etc.

It is best to rent if you can first to see if you really like it here !

Remember it can get cold here in the winter too !

    Cheers Tony

Yes we would rent for a few years first, it isn't so much the heat that we are hoping for Tony, it is more about getting away from the UK winter. We have only been over twice so far, once for 3 weeks in Nerja (wasn't very dog friendly, we have a lab) in October and for a week in the Algarve during December. I would be happy with an average of 3-4 days per week at 16 degrees (warmest time of the day) during Dec to Feb, from the records available that looks achievable, what do you think?

My mum lived just outside LA zenia (villa martin) for 10 years, come back last year because she was lonely. If you don't have a UK income eg Pension, Savings or rental property FORGET IT!! There is no work. I went out there for a month looking around to make a decision before deciding on a move to Wales to renovate. Yes I have a rental over here but I still could not make the numbers work with 3 kids.

My plan is to renovate in Wales look at what money I have left and buy a 1 or 2 bed bolt hole in Spain for when the kids have gone in about 5 years. The prices are VERY GOOD OVER THERE BUT the red tape is notoriously bad and all the hidden fees for things. The tax rules have also changed and this is catching alot of brits out.

I love it there and YES it is VERY rude not to attempt the language. The Spanish are very friendly to people trying and will help you if they see you trying.

    Hi Chuck

Yes winter here is nothing like a Uk winter , it can get cold at night but normally there are still blue sky's and sunshine most days , and that really cheers me up !
Also nice not to scrape ice off the car in the morning too!

I think the thing I notice most is generally houses here are not well prepared for cold weather and not cosy like heated , carpeted Uk houses .

But all said and done I much prefer it here !

    Cheers Tony:)

Yup, it's almost worth giving up cream teas, the national health service, great theatres, the birthplace of democracy, 4 seasons, an improving economy, financial security, the Brecon Beacons, the Norfolk Broads, Glen Coe, the Lake District, the British Pound, your family....

Aaaah a pair of castanettes and a few oles (olays) beats all that :)

We are only planning to give them up from about December to February, although I like the Lake District in the summer, I don't fancy being there so much in January.
