It does appear to be the done thing now though, that and overt displays of affection in public (as in tongues down each others throats rather than just holding hands).

I don't get this need to be constantly texting people every little thing, it just feels so restricting, what on earth would you talk about when you are together when you have said everything in the 200 texts you exchange when you are not.

Of course, if there is one who likes to do the text thing and one who doesn't, it leads to problems in the relationship. The one texting feels ignored, the one receiving the texts feels pressured. Then there is the feeling of lack of control, from both the sender and recipient (I think this is where my biggest problem is), I don't want to be kept on a leash and someone knowing my every thought, move or location, I want to be free to go where ever I want without having to tell someone about it...I am my own person and not someone elses possession.

Mind you, I was never one for the one night stand when that was in fashion either :rotfl:

Maybe the answer is to send a random emoji back and let them work out what they think it means. Half those smiley face emojis are a mystery to me, but lovveeer could interpret how they wish.

I see Sue's situation slightly differently. If she still likes ex and would like to see him again, i would text him, tell him to call and when, and say that you do not want a relationship by text, but would be up for occasional catch up for a meal etc and that this is absolutely not an invitation to sex or anything else.shes in the driver's seat and able to lay down the ground rules. If not,I'd still make contact, but to say that there is no interest and be totally unequivocal about that.

In the first scenario, what I'm getting at is a suck it and see scenario, but realise that phrase could very much be misconstrued.

Having a wide base of acquaintances in RL is a good way to meet suitable partners imo,as you are able to naturally move to being friends first and take it from there.

    Don't quote, will delete.

Hanging around girls at pumps with mopeds is boring.
Mopeds are first meant to be souped up, then go racing on disused railway tracks, sand mines and building sites. Then you gather at someone's place to listen to the latest Judas Priest album. If the girl is still around after all that, you know she's decent. :)

I rather think I might still have my test smocking stuff on the patterned viyella knocking around in some of the piles of stuff we have knocking around in the house... It was a very soft beige with a bushy flowery pattern on it in soft olive and rust and green and ochre colours. I wish could still get it nowadays! Smocking was in rust and olive green I think.

Do you know, that sounds exactly like a fabric remnant I bought when we lived in Germany to make a dress for my DD! I think I bought it on a market stall, and there was no label to say it was Viyella but I'm sure it was. I later bought some brushed cotton, and you could definitely tell the difference!

It would have been around 1979, I think.

ETA The cardigan - I rather like it, and it looks and sounds lovely and warm. Good luck!

I had to google 'smocking' and accidentally typed 'smicking'

    :D Wonderful!

Lovely to see you, Wheezy! I was wondering where you'd got to. I saw someone walking a Westie yesterday and it made me think of you. Are you okay?

Should jokes like that be barred, or at least minimalised?

    Sounds great.

You missed the part where you ate moules frites with some implausibly strong if rather delicious beer.

I've had Belgian sausage for breakfast this morning. Very nice it was too.

I was en Bruxelles earlier this week so also brought back some beers. And some lemon genever. And a can of escargot for a colleague who cheekily demanded chocolates.
