Sounds an interesting experience.
I, on the other hand, waited in for the plumber to call to fix the annoying drip from the cistern to the pan in the en-suite. He turned up at 4.15pm.
For something like that it'd have gone onto my "add to the list" jobs for plumbers. Until I had enough work to justify a callout I'd have been simply turning off the water supply using the little screw in the pipe just before the cistern. I'd have flushed, then gone back in 5-10 minutes later to turn the screw round.0 -
On Facebook there are local groups where people give away and other people sell some really quite decent stuff. There was a row recently where people were "caught" bartering down the price of stuff then reselling it themselves.
I've looked into these before; I think they're mostly in areas of high population density - so, not where I live. As you're so close to the big smoke a lot more things work than elsewhere in the country (e.g. freecyle, fb selling groups, meetup) ... away from big cities there's simply not the input/traffic to anything to make it worthwhile people trying to participate.0 -

I can beat that. Over 6 hours sat in an airport. Still over an hour until my flight.
Its not all bad though. I've bought enough booze in the airport shop to look like an alcoholic (for once I'm not getting the train home so I won't have to carry it. There might be a few beers in my checked luggage too...

Ahhhh. Fir wins, by a country mile

Edit: Though I was supposed to (finally) be getting my front door tomorrow. I paid the deposit in September. Just found an email saying tete waiting for the frame so can we do the first week in May now
I'm sure they're going to do a good job, but it feels like it's never going to happen.
But it gives me the chance to ask for NP advice...
Knockers.
Should I get a door knocker? I'm tempted by a woodpecker one, but not sure where I'd put it on the door without cluttering it. I don't expect it to get much use. And perhaps the woodpecker isn't as very clever idea (I don't really like the traditional urn ones). Thoughts?0 -
Knockers.Should I get a door knocker? .... Thoughts?
Since you've got some time before the door's fitted, I'd suggest photoshopping knockers onto an image of your front door to see how they'd look. If no photoshop skills, download paint.net (free), File, New, paste the front door image in.
Layers, Add New Layer
Paste the knocker on, then crop/resize it.
Then you can drag the knocker around for positioning, and/or create a new layer per knocker... or a new file for each knocker/door combination.0 -

Fir left the building to crying support staff, he thanked them in his goodbye email,he thinks no one has acknowledged them before.
His email is pinging constantly. No one knows yet where he has gone.0 -

It's worth chatting to the porter. He will know who will get the stuff home for you and how much it will cost. My parents bought their suite from auction (it was a few years ago mind). The suite cost £75.00 and I think they paid an extra £30 to get it home (c10 miles).
If you get to know the porter and are not bidding for the same stuff as him, he may also be in a position to let you know when there are sofas coming up, or how much they tend to go for. Porters are useful people to know...lostinrates wrote: »Fir left the building to crying support staff, he thanked them in his goodbye email,he thinks no one has acknowledged them before.

Am I allowed to send fir a virtual hug? What you said about the support staff doesn't surprise me at all.
