The last of the rain has gone thankfully. There are a lot of people left in a very precarious position as a result though, poor begguers.

For anyone wondering I'm on day 7 or something re the codeine; I've not had any more anyhow. It's been easy for a couple of days but today I've had definite cravings. For cigarettes too oddly. I'd happily smoke a small cigar now or perhaps a black tobacco cigarette.

We could do with some rain to wash some of the pollen out of the air and also because I have rerouted a gutter at the back and want to know if it has helped with the flat roof leaking issue...but hopefully nothing on that scale!

Coudl the cravings to do with beign stuck indoors and unable to do anything to distract?

Michaels here we are due rain at the weekend. Have you. He led your forecast?

In prep for the weekend I have spent a few hours outside today reading a book in the sun with dog dog and pink whistley. ( who caught a mouse mid book) while wearing a huge hat to protect my face trying to make sure I got no direct sun but got some sunlight to keep all my fussy requirements happy.

We didn't eat out as a family when I was growing up, so I still remember the first time I went to a Beefeater, when I was about 27. I was in awe :)

    Anyone remember Schooner Inns ?

They got taken over by Berni Inns in the 1980's but I remember going to the Schooner Inn at Robin Hood Gate (Richmond Park) vividly. My Mum always had their trademark "schooner" of sherry, whilst my Dad had his pint of Double Diamond.

First time I ever had Onion Rings :j

Glad to hear things have quietened down, Gen. Was the Manly Dam ok in the end? Sounds as if it's been dreadful there :(

lir I found the new forum gave me a headache when it went out to everyone by accident, and posted on the "feedback" thread that day to say so.

My forum has stayed the same (i.e. looks the same as ever).

Quite a lot of people were complaining that it gave them a headache, so I wonder if one of the team has gone through the posts and fixed things so that those who got a headache, or otherwise found it difficult to read, have stayed with the "old look"?

Forum was different until I logged in.

I am terribly bored and demotivated atm!
Bit of good news - a colleague has dug up part of a blackcurrant plant & brought it in for me. It's in a load of water at the mo. I'll be planting it back in the ground tomorrow (she dug up all its roots!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I did an unlike-PN thing. I've just been to a sale of general household items... and how exciting that was. I even bid a couple of times, then backed off after bidding once on one item and twice on another. But it was good practice.

Stuff I would have been interested in went for higher prices than I was prepared to pay today .... I plan to go again/regularly in order to either accept that things cost more than I'm prepared to pay, or until the day the out-bidders don't turn up :)

I was there a long time as one item was the first lot - and the others were lots 400+.

But I acclimatised myself to the environment. There were fewer than 20 people in the room at any one time.

Stuff I'd eyed up: brand new divan, pine 2-drawer filing cabinet, couple of bedside tables. First one was what I was there for (£120 it went for, to a couple sitting on it - so I figured that psychologically speaking they were in for the long-haul so any bid I made at that point would just have them digging in). Wooden stuff was a bidding war with two bidders + occasional interest from the auction porter (who did bid on a lot of stuff).

So I've had a day out ....for free as it was free parking and free entry. Just the fuel cost of about 80p.

It amazes me that stuff that is free cycled round here would be auctioned in many parts of the country. In fact it just amazes me full stop how good some of the stuff that is free cycled round here is....

Edit: PN we recently bought a 'leather effect' gas lift ottoman which even though it was cheap seems suprisingly good and is no trouble for DW to use even with a heavy mattress super-king size, I know you were thinking of this option.

    Sounds an interesting experience.

I, on the other hand, waited in for the plumber to call to fix the annoying drip from the cistern to the pan in the en-suite. He turned up at 4.15pm.

On Facebook there are local groups where people give away and other people sell some really quite decent stuff. There was a row recently where people were "caught" bartering down the price of stuff then reselling it themselves.
