He can tie his horse to the gate and ring the bell. Simples.

Trust me .... blokes don't randomly turn up, riding horses, looking to sweep damsels off into the sunset.... or I'd not be here typing this right now.

    :)

But I don't have a doorbell for him to ring!
And I will continue to live in hope. Hopefully one day in a house with a pretty door :(

For something like that it'd have gone onto my "add to the list" jobs for plumbers. Until I had enough work to justify a callout I'd have been simply turning off the water supply using the little screw in the pipe just before the cistern. I'd have flushed, then gone back in 5-10 minutes later to turn the screw round.

It has been on the list for a while. Now the drip had turned into a constant light flow. We had got to the point of turning the water off each time. Anyway it was free because we have British Gas 400 that includes plumbing issues. Luckily because some valve had lost its grip so the guy had to cut the valve out, something that wouldn't have been shown on any youtube video.
Well, that's my current annual income :)

But ... here's the flaw.... if I started doing that today, I'd be able to cash it out in 6 months :)

That is what some people are doing. Ploughing money in now to get the tax relief then taking it all out again soon. Downside is you can only take 25% of your pension out tax free, the rest has to stay in or be taxed.

Is it possible I have seen you in a couple of movies where you get called on by a handy man?

A coupe of weekends ago there was a knock at the door (no doorbell ;) current door has an urn knocker). It was 09.30 and I was awake but not yet out of bed (I am a slob). Decided it might be important so I flung on my joggers (I sleep in an old t shirt, thankfully this one didn't have holey armpits like some of them...) and glasses and answered the door. Was about to peek round the door start telling whoever it was that my vote was none of their business thankyouverymuch when I realised it was the bloke who is supposedly selling me a new door. Cue me trying very hard not to look like I wasn't properly dressed. He's a lovely chap but kinda chatty.

Dunno.... I can't decide, except to say that a good knocker gives a caller options when they press a bell and can't hear it so are unsure if it's working or not.

    I agree.

I would have something like this.

Clearly not, as you typed that three or four hours after sunset. You need to be alert around 6 ish tomorrow.

That'd look a treat at my house .... love it!

I guess the problem then comes when they offer finishes.... silver, gold, brass, various antique metal finishes. The world has too much choice.

Not sure I'd like it in brass.... maybe a brushed aluminium would be more my thing. That one's a bit ... well ... "brassy" :)

From the manufacturer's website, they do it in 3 finishes http://www.blackcountrymetalworks.co.uk/polished-brass-star-fish-door-knocker.htm (and cheaper). But only brass, chrome or black ... not brushed aluminium, which they probably wouldn't do as they're a metalworks firm.

Tell me it's not just me that thinks this one looks a bit rude: http://www.blackcountrymetalworks.co.uk/free-expression-naturism-door-knockers.htm then you see the range name and realise it IS what it looks like!

20 week scan in the morning can't sleep.

Hopefully will find out the gender, but I have invest so much though into both that I will be really happy either way, but kind of sad to lose one too if that makes any sense.

Sort of been like Schroedingers cat for me, it has been both a boy and girl until observed one way or the other so now I feel like I will gain one and loose one at the same time.

Anyway enough ramblings best try and get some sleep.
