I need help to understand an asset class that is being proposed as part of an investment strategy. This class is new to me, is 10% of the sum I am investing. The IFA has explained it to me twice, but I still dont understand.

It is Structured Return do any NP have experience of these and can explain how they work in language suitable for the brain injured.

    Thanks

Probably best to ask on the saving and investment board but sounds like something where they charge you high fees to withdraw part of your capital each year in the hope that the investment returns will be high enough to keep the payments going for a while....
    I think....

Okies, Structured Products. I can explain if you really want me to. The TL;DR version is I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole and I'd have some pretty difficult questions for anyone who advised a client that is very unlikely to work again to buy them.

The even shorter version is if you don't understand 'em, don't buy 'em.

ETA: If there is another GFC there is a really good chance that you will lose the entire investment. Seriously, what $$$$er has put you on to this?

The best explanation of the product, as always, is on Investopedia. If you want to get the returns of an asset, buy that asset. Don't buy a set of derivatives that use a bucket full of poo that an investment bank is unable to sell as collateral. This makes me grumpy.

I've discovered I have a downpipe issue that needs sorting. I am guessing that the tree that used to be overhanging dropped lots of stuff in the gutters and, over the few years it was there it's actually filled up the whole of the drainpipe to the top. The drain under it is also full of bits.

So, The gutter needs clearing and the downpipe disassembling/clearing ... and then the drain cover can be removed and all the gunk cleared out.

What sort of 'trade' would be capable of doing that if I've guessed it right?

All I can see as the streetlight shines on the downpipe is that water is travelling down the outside of the pipe and not the inside... and I suspect it's a little harder than simply overflowing from the top, so a simple "clear gutters" wouldn't work.

    Dynorod innit.

As a single female you really know they see you coming with stuff.

£90 to stick their rod in your hole. I can't see a local bloke being much cheaper.
