I was going to ask if Herts Libraries might be doing something fun for young readers over the holidays but I don't know if I will bother now...I think....0 -

I'm also almost exclusively right handed...

Also, I'm finding I'm increasingly left footed when it comes to football. There is no rational explanation for this.0 -
. I did have more but the two older boys raided the stocks to take to uni when theirs (or more specifically James'), went walk about in the halls.
Not that I need a canteen of cutlery or even loads of knives and forks, we never entertain.
DD never lost anything in her shared kitchen.
It would have been a brave or foolish student that helped themselves to dd's stuff when she lived in halls. Hell hath no fury like an only child who is forced to share their belongings.0 -
I wash by holding the plate in my left hand and sponge thing in my right...but that has been adapted as it used to be the other way around. I had to change it as my right hand is not able to take the weight of the plates and I managed to smash my way through copious crockery before I thought to change it.
My drainer is on the left and before the change over, it was a right faff.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Tonight it's 1970, 1980 and 1990.
How can Masterchef overrun? Did it go to a souffl! shootout?0 -

Sold out.
Years ago watching his Saturday Kitchen was a Saturday morning treat, a joy... not to be missed. But, in recent years, he's sold out. It used to be a nice food cooking programme, with achievable/regular food - and there was a table of people who were "members of the public, from the audience". Since then, it's morphed into a trail of chefs plugging their own book/restaurant and the people at the table are celebs.
Just watching his Christmas Food programme on the telly and the food is SO far out of the realms of "normal" I've pretty much got no idea what the ingredients are, no idea what the words are he's using (French cooking techniques), have never had most of the ingredients he's cooking .... and it's all just super expensive/posh stuff for wealthy people with big houses who entertain lavishly.
Not a sausage roll in sight!
He cooked dinner for us last week in his Manchester restaurant. It was fabulous. His thai crab risotto was one of the nicest things I've ever eaten. The whole thing was really good value for money, considering the sheer size and indulgence of it.
I was snoozing through Home Comforts with my hangover. I'm really not sure about all the 300 year old recipes that the random man introduces and I'm not going to cure Gravadlax while I'm still struggling to sort shopping and writing Xmas cards is outside odds. I don't have the time. I love watching peoplemaking food though and am happy for them to make it for me
Saturday kitchen is the same as ever, I think, but without the ordinary people at the table. They never added much, tbh, although I'd have happily sat there.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Am I the only one who opens the hinge lid of the kettle to fill it as it fills much quicker without splashing?
No, you're not! What's the point of the lid at all if you're going to fill it from the spout?
What if water spills down the sides and onto the electrical gubbins?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Bugslet, wise words. It makes me think of the saying " better a day too soon than a day too late".
Were you an only child of only children?
There are times when I have been happier estranged from my siblings . It is a bit of a milestone that I have invited my lot for this weekend.
GDB & Silvercar, I am delighted at how respectful your offspring are in honouring your faith and asothers have said curious how your daily life includes rituals I have no knowledge of. As GdB says it is systemic I can see how that enables compliance without too much dialogue.
Scfor future meals out, can you choose Kosher or Vegetarian restaurants to reduce discussion.
Gen I am back to what a difference a year makes. Enjoy the approval, and money. In my working life I designed pay systems and strongly believe that the payback from doing something you enjoy means more than money (once you are past the safety level of earnings).
Sounds like your job is good for your bank balance, health, self belief, family life and for your employer . Long may it continue.
I really enjoyed my job and was good at it, however it was very bad for my health. I enjoy home things too ,but like them as well as working, not instead of.0 -
Never heard of being forced to write left handed before?
The school tried to force me to write and paint right handed, my teacher was old school and thought it was the sign of the devil.
I got my own back, they took the paintbrush out of my left hand and put it in my right hand and my very stroppy 5 year old self (I could even have been still under 5 at the time), accidently on purpose, lost control of my hand and painted the teacher, the walls and anything else which got in my way.
They let me use my left hand after that....think I proved the demonic idea! :rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD.
