Doozergirl What a great idea of DD's! And she looks lovely :)

    Congrats vivatifosi and Generali

Re: Left-handedness, in our family DD1, DS and I are left-handed but hold the cutlery as if we were right-handed, though I do find a spoon much easier to manage in my left hand. OH and DD2 are right-handed and hold their forks in the right hand and knives in their left! Neither has any idea why, they've just always found it feels better that way round.

I played hockey right-handed but tennis left-handed. If I were to try playing a guitar or violin, I'd have to do that left-handed. Not an issue with recorder and piano :D

I have a left-handed cheque book, with the stubs on the right (cross-posted with PN).

If they don't have the means to buy a second set, someone will have given it as a wedding present or they would have inherited a cast off of someone else's. There are also charities that exist purely to provide the means of being religious to those that can't afford it. I'm not saying it's a charity you or I would consider valuable in the scheme of things, but they exist and are funded. You find many poor religious Jews but what they lack in money they make up for in people. Aside from the actual dishes and crockery, there is little else that is essential- this 2 sinks, 2 ovens, 2 dishwashers etc is there to make life easier if you have the means and room to do so, it is far from essential.

    I hadn't considered religious charity.

Just to be clear, I'm not criticising anyone for using a couple of plates and spoons. I'm simply interested in the mechanics of it. (I suspect everyone knew that already but you never know).

    Had my performance review today.

Well done. I'm sure it's much deserved. Great that things are finally going so well for you.

Gloomy dull day. I'm of to Soho for a couple of  and a lengthy lunch with some mates. That should brighten things up!

Woah - you are getting paid to do what I would happily sit and do all day for the fun of it - jammy !!!!!! :)

    It's fantastic isn't it!?

The hard bit really is tying stuff that is on the face of it just interesting back to an investment case.

For example, I read (re-read actually) a piece on the finances of a You Tube video going viral. The person got c. 1,500,000 views and made c. $1,000 from it. Now that is interesting (to me) and there is a definite macro case to be made that TV companies are FUBAR'd rather like newspapers were a decade ago.

However, 'so what?'. How can we make money from that insight? That's the difficult bit.

And the bizarre thing is that, away from the NP thread, somebody would jump on you and scream that you're a racist/something and un-PC .... and don't you know anything about multiculturalism and diversity?????

Er ...no.. had NO idea whatsoever that some people had to do these things. No clue, or idea, whatsoever, until this thread, this moment in time. And now I'm intrigued/interested and want to know more.

    :)

    Funny isn't it?

Judaism has always flown a bit under the radar despite me having had Jewish friends down the years, being a Spurs fan and having lived in Stepney. It's not for want of intellectual curiosity either, I'm not sure why I don't know really.

I also know beggur all about Islam. I know a bit about Buddhism and Christianity though.

I did that once in Morrisons. They couldn't have been nicer. They printed the receipt and put my trolley to one side. They even let me take the popcorn and coke I was planning to buy as I was on my way to take DD to the cinema. Doozer collected and paid for the shopping.
