Thanks! Did manage to find where my user profile was eventually and changed back. Ghastly design. They say it's more something or other but I disagree. So much so that can't even remember it was more of other than repulsive.0 -
PN, we got rid of an ugly piece of furniture, welsh dresser type of thing, and British Heart Foundation came out to look it over, took it away and later wrote to say they had raised £150 for their work. Win win.
They are bit picky, I think, it's up to the driver's discretion whether they take it or not. I tried to get them to take some other furniture once and the driver said no market for it.
If your sofa has the necessary fire retardant covering it may be worth calling your local BHF shop for help. Sorry I don't know details of how you tell and what year regs came in but from memory there will be a label underneath somewhere.
Failing that, is there a women's refuge in your area that may take it, or a Lions Club or a Round Table branch? The fire retardant is crucial I think. Social Services would know about the Refuges and possibly a local church may know of a needy family. Just a few thoughts to help you save 30 squid!0 -

Even better to save a few bob and help a family in need too!

BTW, we're half way through this baby:

I'm listening to the rain on the roof in Sydney right now. SiL is on the Central Coast (the coastal area to the North of Sydney) and has had no power today and is likely to be in the same way for a few days I suspect.
It's been quite difficult for many people. Not for us but lots of people will have struggled to get home and a couple of people died even!
Tomorrow is meant to be worse. The BOM (our Met Office) always overplays this stuff so I have my doubts.0 -

Interesting. It's the sort of storm we shouldn't get this far south as a rule. It's pretty close to being a minor cyclone/hurricane although really not as bad as those tropical storms.
We've put the air con on heat and actually it's quite calming being warm and snuggly and listening to the wind and rain outside.
Having said that, even in Sydney we had 100mm of rain by lunchtime I believe and will probably get a foot of rain over the two days. Lots of people are suffering from this and the guys up in the Hunter Valley (inland from the Central Coast) don't have the population density to support lots of emergency services.
Yup, all safe and staying that way. FIL was meant to be driving up the coast for a funeral tomorrow but that isn't going to happen now. Thankfully calm heads have prevailed as we don't want or need a complimentary funeral and tomorrow things are supposedly worse.
Still not as bad as the storms viva's family see.0 -
I have a nephew living and working in Sydney and we spoke on phone this morning and he, typically, downplayed this storm. From what he said it was a bit of rain and a bit windy. I now know better, thank you, Generali. Hope you are all safe and sound and remain so tomorrow too.0
