The bar was set a bit too high tonight!

So, you couldn't reach your drinks?

Seriously, I don't know what you do about a too competitive dinner party set. Possibly, you could side-step the problem whilst fulfilling your obligation to reciprocate, eg host a garden party (in the summer) with lots of Pimms and cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Is it actually possible to do a CNP transaction with a train company?

All mine (all with Greater Anglia) have definitely been present.....

If you book online, you just enter your details, including the card details. However, the machine that spews out the tickets at teh station requires the card to be inserted first. At least, that's how it's worked for me.

I can buy online straight onto my keycard (oyster type thang) so no physical card required at any point - and I have twice been contacted by fraud dept of card company to confirm the transactions so I guess it is a known fraud risk.
    I think....

kab - It's our church "Autumn Fayre" today.

It's cunningly being held straight after 10.30 mass so that people can't "forget" ;):D

Nikkster When I was an Army wife back in the 70s I was so thankful I wasn't an officer's wife so I wasn't expected to host dinner parties, dreadful thought  I suppose that was the peak era of dinner parties.

Spirit Glad you enjoyed the gurnard! Not one I've tried yet. So far, sea bass is my favourite.

    ...

Just inside the Autumn deadline :)

I hope it goes well. :)

I guess I fall into the category of lapsed Catholic, but one of my favourite Xmas days of recent times was where we went to a morning service then attended a gathering packing parcels for an orphanage the church supports...a post-Xmas gift if you like.

The kids of course didn't appreciate being there at first, which was a bit disappointing.

Youngest has surprised everyone and has become a student rep at his college. His PPT checked with him that this was ok with him first (youngest was nominated by two college friends) and youngest answered in his usual way "Yeah sure".

Not quite sure youngest knows what is involved but he has approached the first meeting in a business like manner, getting views (sent a group message out at college asking for them rather than approaching people directly), setting an agenda for the meeting etc.

In the last year, he has come a long long way, he is a completely different person to the one that left high school in 2014.

Also, first 3 units of his course completed and he has Distinctions in all, one of them proving a tutor wrong who told him to only worry about merit tasks and not the distinction ones as he had to have some time off due to his asthma....that is not youngest's style at all and not what he has planned for himself in his quest for uni.

Not bad for a child who didn't go full time at school until he was 11 and even then, had to have far more than the average time off due to hospital stays etc.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

But you'd have had all the benefits of modern living! You could've given them a Vesta curry, followed by an Arctic Roll!!

Bottle of Blue Nun and bob's your uncle!

I was once on holiday in Spain in the 70s/80s and spotted a British-themed cafe which offered curry. When I checked the menu more closely there was a warning that it took 20 minutes to prepare which immediately made me think of a kitchen full of Vesta packets and pans of boiling water. I'd imagine that if I was spending a long time away from anywhere that sold spicy food, I'd even look forward to that!

Mum and dad went through a period of going down memory lane last year...by buying packets of Vesta curries!

It took them back to their much younger, less well off days when it was a once in a blue moon treat to have one.

No pool action yet sadly. It is full but needs to be chemically adjusted so it's okay to swim in.

We went out yesterday and spent $250 on chemicals! The previous people here neglected it really badly. We've killed the algae and have put in 25kg of chlorine as well as something to stop the chlorine getting broken down by the sun.

Now we run the pump for 48 hours and after that dump 180kg of salt into the pool and hey presto!
