I'm having a spontaneous kind of a week. Ended up going to a friends house for dinner (fish finger sandwich
) last night. This afternoon I booked tomorrow off to mooch around London :j
Was chatting to someone in the office after most people had gone home. I was about to go and jokingly asked if he had a home to go to... He was going to a gig. Eska. I assumed it would be sold out as she was up for the Mercury Award just last week... actually it was like being in someone's living room as there were only about 30 of us in the audience. Amazing. Fabulous voice and boy can she work a room. Highly recommended.0 -
Congrats lemonjelly! I'm sure I mentioned something about there being a silver lining....really pleased that it sounds like you might have found it
And congrats too Gen. Long may it continue.0 -
Good to hear from lemonjelly! Glad all's well on the job front. Was wary of the new Autumn statement's effect on the college sector, but relieved now.
Nikkster. I'm very impressed. That is most exceptionally nice listenable music. I am tempted to look her up on the neverendingplaylist.:beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I've started a new job. Had a bizarre scenario where I'd been offered something with a small (acceptable short term) pay cut. Got invited to an interview from a job I'd applied for months earlier. Had 2 separate interviews booked for a slightly prestigious institution, and got offered the first job (which was more suitable for me anyway) resulting in a slight pay rise! Also, closer to home.
Got an office, phenomenal view, and most importantly a cracking environment to work in with some very supportive colleagues.
In other news, this happened in the local and national press:

More to come out apparently!
Cheers everyone's favourite gelatinous poster. Good to see you again.
I hate that sort of thing and it seems to be a particular trait of poor public sector management, although far from unknown in the private sector too: weeing money away on one side while sacking people on the other in an attempt to get the budget to balance.0 -
I was at County Hall yesterday, with DH who was receiving his long service award (25 years, all at the same school - actually 26 as nothing got done about it until he pushed the head's PA).
Citations read out by various people, all of whom had the title "Director". One girl who handed the certificates to the Chairman spent the whole time playing with her hair; very distracting.
Chairman was very good and talked personally to each of the 50+ present, but you do wonder how many chiefs and how many indians are employed...
One lady, who has worked in the county's schools for 25 years, has not had one day off sick in those 25 years. Some very interesting histories to listen to.0 -

Also, fishcakes. I really like the L*dl frozen 4-packs ... they nuke up quite firm/crispy.
The main trouble is, the freezer's full of frozen Quorn I bought. Bought 3 500g packs .... used half a pack in the SC and not over-enamoured at the results, so I have to really get through the rest of it before I've room for new stuff
Stir fry quorn, then add a sauce. Taste's fine.
I also make fish finger sandwiches. When I'm lazy they are microwaved fish fingers!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I sometimes buy quorn mince on the basis that we shouldn't be eating met every meal but never really like it - even mixed 50-50 with real mince in spag bol or lasagna it is just disappointingI think....0

Has anyone found anything worth getting for Black Friday yet?
Edit: After we had DD2 in hospital a month ago I decided it would be useful to have one of those O2 finger monitors in the house but there seems to be too much choice and not enough info prices range from £10 to £250. No doubt the £250 ones are better but are the £20-30 ones better than the £10 ones or is it just different packaging?I think....0 -

:D I love reading your family history stories btw. My ancestors seem to have been either soldiers or shoemakers, a strange mix!
lemonjelly So pleased to hear your brilliant news! I hope you'll be much happier there :j
Doozergirl I love pretty shoes, but my feet just won't have it  I used to cry in shoe shops a few years ago, but am now resigned to having to wear "sensible" shoes. So if you can afford them, you buy them, and wear them on behalf of me and all the others who can't
Well done hjd's DH :T
Maggie I hope things are on the up in the very near future ((HUGS))
lostinrates Thinking of you and hoping things are as okay as possible health-wise. We miss you!
:hello: to everyone else
ETA michaels A finger monitor does sound a good idea for you in view of what happened. I think I would go for one of the £20-£30 ones. Or get the £10 one and see if it actually works, and return it for a refund if not, and then get one of the slightly dearer ones!0
