I guess you've been reading the South Australia newspapers then. It's perfect bushfire weather right across the southern half of Aus: baking hot and a strong breeze.

It's one of those count your blessings days over here.
Oh and I still don't have cancer.:j:T
I've started a new job. Had a bizarre scenario where I'd been offered something with a small (acceptable short term) pay cut. Got invited to an interview from a job I'd applied for months earlier. Had 2 separate interviews booked for a slightly prestigious institution, and got offered the first job (which was more suitable for me anyway) resulting in a slight pay rise! Also, closer to home.
Got an office, phenomenal view, and most importantly a cracking environment to work in with some very supportive colleagues.
In other news, this happened in the local and national press:

More to come out apparently! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Maggie Are you ok?
Struggling a bit at the mo - new to us car probs, being sorted with good will by dealer, but it's just another hassle... But am keeping eye on a certain item on eBay that ends this evening that I REALLY REALLY WANT! So will have to stay awake to put my bid in at last minute.
Thanks for asking dear ivyleaf.CKhalvashi wrote: »A Jag with heated seats is my solution.
Or sitting with a hot water bottle against your back has a similar effect if not.
With you on the heated car seats! It's the only must have for me mostly... Though do need high car as can't get into most saloon cars - hit head on way in, can get in but can't get out! Too low cars just can't lift self out of, very difficult even if OH tries pull me up as I try step out.
Oh, and as to hot water bottles, just the most brilliant invention!:j

Hugs and congrats dear Generali. :j :j :j You still feature in my Vibe sessions, along with Spirit (and other folks from elsewhere on the Net).
I know The Vibes can be helpful as have my own experience of them from years ago when had to go to Tribunal over DLA. Knowing I had The Vibes from my friends was the only thing that kept me going through that ghastly meeting. When The Brown Envelope of Doom (you have to apply for PIP) arrives I will be asking for Vibes for me. :rotfl:0 -

Every now and then as I walk around the local town I suddenly think of you Lemon.
Looks like the j o b situation has been a real blessing in disguise - I am hoping the same thing might happen to me....I think....0 -
What have I missed mate?
I'm glad to be out of there. Wasn't happy for a few years. Got a payoff for 4 weeks out of work, & luckily managed a small step up.It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Woo hoo! Great news Gen! Congratulations.Viva or other well informed NP. I do not usually watch TV or listen to the Radio, I get almost all news from the bbc website. I am not very comfortable with the beebs version of world news.
Now I am emerging from the fog of stroke I would like a more varied diet of perspectives. Any website suggestions? Will pay for trials before a full subscription.
When it was new and we had sky I used to like al jazeera, and for sheer parochialism the cnn website, but I don't seem to be able to access that anymore. there must be a firewall to keep out sceptics and cynics.
Depends what you are looking for Spirit. Do you want lots of snippets of news, different perspectives or more analysis?
If you want just to have lots of different news, and to pick and choose, you could just go to google news at https://www.google.co.uk/news and see what stories take your fancy. I often read the news this way and read a far broader number of press sources than I would otherwise. You can also customise this to find more of the type of story that you like. Or you could try The Week, which offers the news in a neat packaged weekly form on top of that, but stories are moving so quickly that it can seem a bit old hat by the time it comes round.
If you are looking for different perspectives, then the route that CK suggested will give you an interesting insight as the Russian News, or Al Jazeera, or Press TV (Iran), do present things totally different to the BBC. Heck, the BBC presents things differently to Sky, ITN and Channel 4, so it isn't really surprising that they differ even more internationally.
If you like more analysis, then I would go for what Gen suggested and look at items such as the Economist, New Statesman, Newsweek, etc. If you have a library card, you may be able to get some of these free of charge if your local library authority subscribes to Zinio. Each authority has their own list of titles and they differ enormously. Your husband may like this too, as he can download some titles to his tablet and read them while he's on the move.
Finally, if your library subscribes to it, I'd also take a look at Library Press Display, especially if this is a resource that you can read from home. That gives you tons of choice. I'd recommend anyone who likes the news checks whether that is available from their library. Incidentally you can get The Week (see above) on Library Press Display.
So lots of different options, depends on your personal reading preferences but hopefully food for thought in there.lemonjelly wrote: »What have I missed mate?

Welcome back Jelly! michaels, this might help if it's tension. Take a rolled up towel ( determine the size yourself based on how little flexibility you feel you have), lie it on the floor and lie on it so that it runs along your spine from base of neck and allow your shoulders to ease down towards the floor. I've found it helpful in the past.
Woman up ;-) - there is only me :-(. I didn't get my grass cut either - was going to do it last weekend but with the kitchen been out of order and the lawn mower behind the kitchen stuff in the garage....aaargh. And it's been raining a lot. And I have 5 dogs. Great.
Euuuurgh!! You need a lady that comes and knocks on the door. You can then choose to open it or not, if you're like me.
I did not pick poo this morning, but I did look out of the window and think about how soggy it would be and sort of melting into the grass.
Maybe I can ignore it now and just wait until the poop has frozen solid. The grass doesn't appear to have grown for weeks so I can wait until next year?
I went and tried on really frickin expensive shoes today. My mind is more on purchasing themEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I won my eBay thingy. :j It's about the zoo that was on the road we live on. I hope to make copies of the thing (a pamphlet about the zoo including some stuff about livestock and a map of it) and give to our neighbours. And eventually to all residents in the road.
I don't know how this idea will work out! I'm sure our close neighbours will be happy to get a copy of this pamphlet. Not so sure about further away ones. But it's a project for me, and I believe a worth while one.
Am I completely mad?0 -

On another thread I have been pointed in the direction of a black friday deal on a laptop that is predicted to go live between now and midnight.
Clicking refresh in the hope it goes live before I give in.
Apparently buying on Tesco direct means you can decide not to collect if you don't want it by delivery time.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
