Unsurprisingly, DT has erupted into a festival of Islamophobia and racism.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Clearly, I've only just now looked at the news since what was on when I got home around 6 (in case I looked insensitive)
A coincidence after the news about Enwazi (no nicknames for me I'm afraid)?
Regardless, awful. There is enough out there 'against' us as human beings, why must we add to it?0 -
Oh dear, I have spent the day definitively proving that I have forgotten more about writing sql queries than I ever knew in the first place
Come back excel and vba, all is forgiven...
You're showing my age. Long ago I used to write sql queries was an excel whizz, but latterly had staff who did vba etc, excel became a foreign language and I knew nothing. When Dinosaurs ruled the earth in the 1980;'s and Iwore jackets with padded shoulders.0 -

This morning DD spent a couple of hours believing Elton John had been killed.
I have flitted between a long held belief in the rule of law, accompanied by anti death penalty and right to a fair trial principals. Conflicted today by acknowledging a need to protect others and reduce extreme risk. I want drones to set impenetrable traps. holding the bad guys until they can be brought to justice. is it right to settle for summary justice?0 -

DT: as classy as ever.
Smoking is still far riskier than living next door to a Muslim family.0 -
Trying to catch up here. Delighted to hear about your progress Spirit but sorry to hear about the DVLA problem.
I despair about what's happening in the wider world at times like tonight. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Yes, all that. When we murder murderers, what does it make us? Besides which, these drone strikes help the terrorists to recruit. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I can't help but feel equivocal about this.
I am a very strong believer in the rule of law and human rights however when someone wants to fight you by shooting civilians when they are eating dinner then to some extent they are forcing your hand to go down a road you'd rather not tread.
It would have been great to send in a snatch squad to grab Jihadi John and bring him to justice. The likelihood is that it would have risked many lives. To use an analogy, what do you do when someone is firing missiles at you from a busy school? You want to stop the missiles but you don't want to kill the kids. That's the conundrum these sickos set. They deliberately force everyone off the moral high ground.
Anyhoo, back to more serious subjects. I found this via the FT website, extreme bag-piping.
It seems that even penguins need to be tied down to be forced to listen to the bagpipes. As the old saying has it, a gentleman is a person that can play the bagpipes but doesn't.0 -

A very good analogy there, Sir.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
