I always thought Josh was far more sensible than James.

Oh he is but he didn't like the out of routine, not touching the sides in the rain, spiders in the tent thing....he hates spiders, has a real fear of them. Other bugs are absolutely fine, just spiders which freak him out completely.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I have heard of shortcrust mince pies and puff pastry mince pies, but not the sodding variety. Have I led a sheltered life??

The trick with sodding mince pies is to let them cool first otherwise it smarts a bit.

My preferred approach to mince pies, sodding or otherwise, is to throw them in the bin (with the Christmas pudding and Christmas cake) and eat else.

They are far too rich. f I ate two of them I'd feel like an anaconda that had eaten a deer.

The desserts I like include trifle and tiramisu, ice cream, cheesecake, gateaux. None of them is as artery-chokingly filling as mince pies/christmas pudding, which feels like swallowing an anvil.

I like mince pies, not sure why I only make/eat them in December?

Today I had a friend and her elderly father around for lunch.

He lives with her, and is now very frail & dependent as he approaches the end of his life. She likes for him to get out in the world but it is getting harder.

He still has a good appetite so we have started having a regular lunch date here and I usually cook something british & traditional. Today we had faggots with parsley potatoes, carrots ,broccolli onion gravy. Pudding was apple & blackberry crumble with icecream. He told me that the pudding was very nice but he preferred the apple pie I made last time. I will take the hint.

I like apple pie with sutanas and spices but I had made a plain apple filling for the pie he liked. So this weekend I will make pies for the freezer, get dd to pick the last of the apples, and if she will pick sloes I will make sloe gin.

Our holiday budget is very elastic. I like camping, although I am saying that as someone who has not slept under canvass for over 30 years. More recently we have had a campervan, and hired motorhomes which I really like.

Off to Sicily later this month. I have been a bit confused though and told friends we are going to Syria! We have invted DD and bf to come with us. They will come for the first week The first couple of nights we are staying in Taormina, but in different hotels. We will meet up for dinner. We are booking rather late and due to timing will be away over half term. stupid premium cost and not much availability. Weather forecast quite good though. Have been to Sicily before and I mostly remember great food, huge lemons, traditional fishing villages, stunning views of Etna and rubbish strewn along roadsides.

Would welcome NP recommendations especially for Aeolian islands.

Sorry Spirit, no recommendations here, I don't know that part of the world.

I lost my gogglebox virginity last night.

We had to turn over pretty quickly though. DH has has the preliminary work for another implant this week. He laughed so much it made his face hurt.

    Oh, poor man!

We missed last night's. Might watch it on catch-up later.

We're going away for a few days to see family, so will"see" you all next week. We're about to take the cat to the cattery, poor old boy. DS will be here while we're away, but he works odd hours. the cattery is very good and at least I know he'll get fed at regular times!

    Look after yourselves xx
