Good news on the study front!
A combination of ordinance survey maps and GPS tracking allowed me to locate the desks amongst the rubbish accumulated over too long
I have now shredded and discarded half a garage full of stuff.
It's nice to liberate a room. Feels like a room for free.
I'm guessing most PN peeps are much more organised and tidy than me!0 -
It seems incredible, but it is being widely reported that the first firefighters on the scene in Tianjin pumped as much water as they could onto the calcium carbide, thus turning a fairly routine blaze into a major catastrophe. Water reacts with calcium carbide to produce highly inflammable (and in the right conditions highly explosive) acetylene gas. It was only after the explosion that they switched to using foam.
They didn't know what was in there, so they just did "the usual thing".0 -
Urm, can't remember when I last posted... I had hives (prob scombroid poisoning from plaice from local fish and chip shop. ). And at same time OH got infection in lymph node near to tongue so was on antibiotics. We spent a week in bed watching dross daytime TV. But finally got away. About 2 weeks later than hoped for (though the house sale didn't help with that either!) .

When a young greenfinch came and landed close by on the seeder I knocked on the window, really didn't want to watch another kill. It ignored me, but OH went out and hissed and it flew away, but with hawk following close! :eek:0 -

If the basic health & safety at work course covers the different types of fire extinguisher and what they're for, you'd really hope that a fully qualified team of firefighters might have a think.
There was comment that the paperwork at the storage facility was not up to scratch/dubious. If they were told that there was something more inoccuous in the containers, that might explain things better.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

To be honest there were times when I wished I was dying - the itching was unbelievably horrid, kept me awake over 2 nights. At least I have the recommended anti-histamine tablets now, but was more or less over it by the time OH could get them. (roll eyes smiley).
Since we got to caravan I've had too many insect bites... at least they are in limited places, unlike the hives! I seem to be an attractor for biting insects.0 -

Surely, they must have something equivalent to the hazchem labels we have here?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
There's a party in a nearby street, about four minutes walk away. The music is quite loud in my house. What must it be like for the people at the party? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

My impression, perhaps wrong, is that they were not doing things properly, perhaps on purpose? I guess storing stuff like that is pretty lucrative...Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

For elderly parents. It's a plug you push into the socket, then use it to power something like a kettle - and every time the item is used it sends a text to say the person's OK as they used that item.
He didn't get funding. One issue was that it doesn't monitor them, just lets you know when they've used the item - and, say, in the case of a kettle, it does nothing for them through the night. All valid points for investors, but (at the right price) I think it'd be a great little "add on" for those times between spotting your parent's having problems and getting to the next stage.
I think the parent would feel watched, if every time they used the kettle, the world got to hear about it.
Also can imagine beetling up the motorway to find parent wasn't thirsty! Or worse, parent decided that not using the kettle would mean the family would visit, constantly.
If you've got enough marbles to boil a kettle, surely you can manage a pre-programmed dialler on a phone?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
