    Thanks.

Will discuss possible therapy with the OT when we see her. She says she'll be able to recommend exercises for him straight away. I gather we will probably have to wait a bit longer for anything more than that. They are jumping us up the waiting list to get this appointment as it is.

In any case, there may not be all that much they can do now - he should have had treatment years ago. Any treatment they are able to give him will probably take a while to produce only a partial improvement. Getting the exam access sorted before the beginning of term feels a lot more urgent than starting on the sort of treatment he has to keeping going to see the OT regularly for.

I agree with your priorities but in the long run cure has got to be better than workarounds if it is possible.

I now have a regular weekly appointment at a cardiac rehab class. I have posted before about the difficulties in getting transport here. To get me to these sessions a group of villagers who participate in a good neighbours group have put together a schedule to take me each week.

    How lucky am I.

I knew you lived in a nice part of the country. Good that this is getting sorted for you. Is there any chance of DH travelling less and working form home a bit instead too?
    I think....

This one is for Gen. I'm sure he has mentioned these, so thought he'd be cheered by the story:

    Excellent news! :)

I agree. Although I'm trying to be realistic about how much to hope for. We'll see what happens at the appointment on Thursday.

Now, having sorted him out with a therapist for his OCD (and DD's problems), a specialist optician for the visual aspects of his dyslexia, and an OT for his arm, I just need to find him a tutor to make sure his dyslexia doesn't stop him passing his English GCSE, and start preparing for home educating him his substitute GCSE subject.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

It is cheery, as there seem to be fewer and fewer factories within Greater London.

When I first came to London 30 years ago, the District line between East Putney and Putney Bridge took you past a rooftop with a car sitting on it, as if it was a student prank or something.

I was baffled why it was there until a few years back, and why you don't see it an more, then the internet revealed that an antenna/car aerial factory was based there and kept a car on a rooftop to check reception. Eventually they had to move further out to save money (I think they make mobile phone masts now).

In response to a poster who may not want to be quoted, two parents don't feel enough for the job described; in fact there's a saying that it takes a whole village to raise a child and it usually feels like that's true. :o

Glad to see they're doing well.

There is a cycling truism: the most expensive folding bike you will ever buy is not a Brompton. The reason? After a couple of months you'll want to get rid of the bike you bought and get a Brompton. :money:

To add to the DQWD, it gets all of us down. Never realised it could be so difficult. Issues that we never expected to face, decisions we never expected to make, costs we never foresaw. I think that making those decisions on your own must be 10 times harder than making them with someone.

  • Hullo ^_^

I saw a thread title about being nice and I thought I would jump in and say hello :) Couldn't find an intro thread anywhere so if there is one point me in the right direction if needed ^_^

Bit about me, training to be a chartered management accountant (CIMA/ ACMA) work in capital investment for a public sector institution of relatively decent size (HE sector) though increasingly do revenue accounts (month end, reconciliations on expenditure, that kind of thing). Lurk on here all the time, fascinating and informative.

Started posting because we are selling a property and wanted to get involved in some discussion. Anyway, hi!

    Snap!

In my imagination back then, I just thought of perfect babies, a perfect life and growing old and wrinkly with my husband.

It gets me down at times, especially at times of celebration, for some strange reason, the ex gets the kudos for how the boys have turned out, no idea why bearing in mind he has not really been a part of their lives from BEFORE we split...he was hardly ever there and when he was, he was shouting or throwing things.

Bugs the life out of the boys and if it is said in their earshot, they soon put the person saying it right.

Mind you on the other side of the coin, when they do reach a target, it is an amazing feeling and makes all the rushing around, sleepless nights, angst, tantrums (from both them and me :rotfl:) etc, very much worth it.

For what it is worth, I am still in disbelief and on cloud nine that somehow, through all the tears and stress, that the 'unteachable' and written off at 8 son is off to uni next month.....the thousands of miles travelled for appointments and therapies, the countless bruises and meltdowns now melt away.

We succeeded (we as in myself, Josh, the teachers, the specialists, therapists etc)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Yup, am with the DQWD Gang.

Having kids requires sacrifice and making difficult decisions that may have huge impacts on your life and theirs.
