I think the parent would feel watched, if every time they used the kettle, the world got to hear about it.
Also can imagine beetling up the motorway to find parent wasn't thirsty! Or worse, parent decided that not using the kettle would mean the family would visit, constantly.
If you've got enough marbles to boil a kettle, surely you can manage a pre-programmed dialler on a phone?
Surely all you need is a wifi webcam, they are probably sold as 'baby monitors.....I think....0 -

Could probably do the whole thing with an old mobile on a data only contract left plugged into a charger somewhere not obvious, perhaps as part of the tele or similar - not sure what the legal implications of that would be of course....I think....0 -

There was comment that the paperwork at the storage facility was not up to scratch/dubious. If they were told that there was something more inoccuous in the containers, that might explain things better.
As someone who lived near Buncefield at the time of its explosion, I find what has happened in China chilling.
I still remember the blast wave as though it was yesterday. It woke me up and the whole house started shaking. I thought a jumbo jet had crashed nearby it was that violent. At the time it was the biggest explosion since WW2. I lived a mile away from it. We self evacuated as the smoke was overhead and the air tasted acidic.
The first explosion in China was a similar size to Buncefield but the second was much bigger. I feel terrible for the Chinese fire fighters and their families. They very probably didn't know what was in the factory and highlights why health and safety is so important in such situations.
Scary, very scary. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I'm guessing most PN peeps are much more organised and tidy than me!
Certainly not all.
I think I am probably the only NP sharing a house with somebody who has actually been diagnosed with compulsive hoarding disorder resulting from PTSD.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Apologies for the PN / NP typo !0

For elderly parents. It's a plug you push into the socket, then use it to power something like a kettle - and every time the item is used it sends a text to say the person's OK as they used that item.
He didn't get funding. One issue was that it doesn't monitor them, just lets you know when they've used the item - and, say, in the case of a kettle, it does nothing for them through the night. All valid points for investors, but (at the right price) I think it'd be a great little "add on" for those times between spotting your parent's having problems and getting to the next stage.
Dragons want something for little investment money; something which costs pennies to make in India or somewhere; and which they can flog for £19.99 on the high street.
Oh, and it must have guaranteed IP rights too.
...all for £50K of Theo's hard earned kids inheritance.
I could just imagine the guys behind Google trying to float the concept of "Google" to the Dragons back in the 90s.
"What? You actually suggest letting people search information FOR FREE?"

Woohoo!
Have got appointment for DS with NHS paediatric OT on Thursday this week! Will do a full assessment and write a report that we can use for exam access arrangements.

Good News, great that you are able to get this sorted in the holidays.
Edit: Are you making any progress on getting the therapy to get the issue sorted as opposed to arranging work arounds?I think....0 -

Thanks.
Will discuss possible therapy with the OT when we see her. She says she'll be able to recommend exercises for him straight away. I gather we will probably have to wait a bit longer for anything more than that. They are jumping us up the waiting list to get this appointment as it is.
In any case, there may not be all that much they can do now - he should have had treatment years ago. Any treatment they are able to give him will probably take a while to produce only a partial improvement. Getting the exam access sorted before the beginning of term feels a lot more urgent than starting on the sort of treatment he has to keeping going to see the OT regularly for.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I now have a regular weekly appointment at a cardiac rehab class. I have posted before about the difficulties in getting transport here. To get me to these sessions a group of villagers who participate in a good neighbours group have put together a schedule to take me each week.
How lucky am I.0
