I saw a thread title about being nice and I thought I would jump in and say helloCouldn't find an intro thread anywhere so if there is one point me in the right direction if needed ^_^
Bit about me, training to be a chartered management accountant (CIMA/ ACMA) work in capital investment for a public sector institution of relatively decent size (HE sector) though increasingly do revenue accounts (month end, reconciliations on expenditure, that kind of thing). Lurk on here all the time, fascinating and informative.
Started posting because we are selling a property and wanted to get involved in some discussion. Anyway, hi!
Hi, welcome. HE = Higher Education? It was Home Economics when I was a kid.
There isn't really an introduction to this board we just get on with shouting at each other virtually apart from on this thread where we are mostly nice to each other.0 -
Sue - you have done and are still doing an amazing job. I thought of you when I posted. :T I knew you'd understand.
Thanks everyone else too. I do really know that, but I needed to hear it today, so thanks for being there, all of you.
Fidel - hello and welcome. :hello:Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Oh Sue, I tried to read the last part of your post to my OH and had to keep stopping because I had a big lump in my throat. Huge, huge kudos to you!
Welcome Fidel.
Lydia So glad DS has the urgent help he needs :j
Maggie What beautiful photos!
Parenting is certainly far more difficult than we realise it will be. Of our three children, one, (the youngest, still living at home) seems to be finally getting sorted out financially, but the other two are struggling. We try to help out as tactfully as possible, as they hate asking for help.0 -

I always try to keep the Phil Larkin poem in mind:
They {muck} you up your Mum and Dad,
They may not mean to but they do.
They give you all the faults they had,
And then some others just for you.
They in turn were {mucked} up,
By fools in old-style hats and coats.
Who half the time were soppy stern,
And half at each others' throats.
Man passes misery to man,
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
So get out early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself!0 -

Sorry, yup you're on the money, higher education. A 'University' if one wants to be technical but what one of those is nowadays I don't really know.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll probably stick to the lurking game for a bit until I feel I've got something to contribute.0 -
Oh fiddle sticks....realised I have double booked myself for Thursday.
Youngest collects his GCSE/BTEC results at 9.30 and completely forgetting about that in the excitement of Josh getting his results, Josh has an appointment at the bank at 10 to sort out his student account.
Neither can go alone, youngest because college is so far away and Josh because he just cannot handle things like this on his own just yet (it's one of the independent living skills he has to have support for).
So far I have rung the college, they have said come in before and they might hand them out early (that was when I found out it was 9.30 not 9 as all of us thought, including youngest's friends!) and possibly asking my parents to pick Josh up and take him to the bank and sit with him until I can rush back and be with him. Josh is not keen on the idea and wants me to be there but my mum has her head on straight when it comes to finances and can advise him pretty well in my absence.
It's more for moral support anyway, my intention was for him to handle it (and of course, the bank would expect him to be answering the questions rather than me), so hopefully, with a little 'convincing' he will finally accept that rather than cancelling the appointment....but he does get hopelessly confuzzeled when they start going on about things in financial speak.
Thankfully, it is the bank he has had an account at since he was a baby and all the staff know him and his problems very well and they are generally supportive...yes I know, a bank in this day and age being understanding! Albeit they do moan that he makes them feel old as they remember him being pushed into branch in his pram as a tiny baby and having his first account opened for him :rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Hi Fidel and lovely to have you join us.
And don't worry about needing to have somethign to contribute before 'speaking' - if I did that I'd never post anything.
And you do have something to say - if you want to - fidel_castronaut sounds like it ought to come with a story, does it have one that you can share? Mine is very original, my name plus a posessive 's'I think....0 -
Hi Fidel, welcome to the NPT
The meeting has been a lot more productive than we were planning for. I have now seen some preliminary stage designs and it looks amazing
If anyone would like a Georgian lesson, DD1 is giving the Georgian and DN3 is translating. Don't quote link, will delete in few hours.
Going to get some lunch, then off to the airport to get back to England💙💛 💔0 -

Heh, ^_^
You'd think so wouldn't you? But it's just been a handle I've used online for years and it sort of stuck. I think years back I saw a guy called fidel_gastronaut on another forum and I sort of stole it. I also love Cuban communist dictators, but in space!0
