    Happy birthday!

Never phone anybody before 10am, for any reason other than an emergency - unless the call's expected.

    :)

Even if she hadn't, I still wouldn't have made it to 10. About 9:20 I got a call from a very "helpful" lady with an accent from somewhere on the Indian subcontinent wanting to advise me about a problem with my Windows computer.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I hope that you kept her on the phone for a few minutes. I try to do that as a public service.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I alternate on responses, depending on what they're calling about.

If they mention a PC I say I've not got one.

If it's anything else I speak in a faux-Indian accent myself - they hang up when they can't understand me :)

Happy Birthday Lydia  Sorry you didn't get your lie-in.

We finally got around to trying out the carpet shapooer I bought ages ago. Go us!

Unfortunately we still need to use the room where the cleaned carpet is, so are padding around on sheets of Regina Blitz.

DD2 and family have gone away for a week. She suddenly realised on her way home from work last night that she'd forgotten to arrange for anyone to feed and water DGD's rabbit......so that'll be us then....:A

I have a handy airhorn I blast down the phone when they call. I'd love to see the look on their faces :D

We had a motivational speaker at work who'd been bitten by a great white (I think it was a great white) in Sydney Harbour while in the navy. He lost an arm and a leg and about a billion pints of blood (I confess not to paying 100% attention at that point). That was a single bite.

Our Deputy Headmaster at school used to tell the story that he'd been chased by a grizzly (?) bear and had to climb a tree to get away.

It didn't have quite the motivational effect that he desired. He got nicknamed "Indiana [surname]" and nobody believed a word he ever said!:D

Happy birthday Lydia, hope you've had more 'spoiling' during the day.

Been speaking to Sis about the house in the Rockies.

Apparently the large front balcony and one of the rear balconies have wood rot. They need ripping out and rebuilding.

I thought housing was supposed to be some kind of miracle profit centre? I think we are trying to buck this trend :)

I think a neighbour's house has the right idea. She has a rope bridge to a sort of balcony come master bedroom.

A rope bridge! Barking mad use of space, but I love it :)

So we got to Chessington about 10:30 and they handed out a sheet saying 3 of the main rides were out of order so we could get in free next time this summer. DW and DDs went for the Vampire, DD and I did other rides. At about 1:30 DD and DDs met up with us...having just done their first ride

Anyway while still waiting for them I went and complained and got given a queue jump voucher for each of us and then DW went and complained and got given 2 more queue jump vouchers each and the free entry next time was upgraded to one free entry in any Tusauds attraction at any point in the next 12 months. It started raining at 4, 2 hours earlier than the bbc had promised and was extremely wet. We then managed to have a total of 8 rides (out of 20 odd) closed at various points in the day, 5 all day and 3 others at different times - this is what we know of because we were there and couldn't go on, for all we know there were more closures of other rides / at other times. Seems they are extremely nervous of having another accident. At least once it had been pouring with rain for an hour and they kept the rides (those that were working) open for an extra hour so we did finally get a few rides in.

Then on the way home at 7.30 the overhead gantries said M25 queues clockwise J4 - J31:eek: Luckily it wasn't quite as bad as it sounded.

WE waved to the NP at the appropriate points.
    I think....

Thank you for the birthday wishes, everyone.

I have had a restful day, and a pleasant meal out. I have heard from all my brothers as well as my dad and some of my friends. My children have finally reached the age where they are able to choose me presents that are actually things I am pleased to have, rather than just being pleased by the thought and the effort involved.

    46. Feels old. I expect I will get used to it. However much I don't like getting older, I remind myself that it sure beats the alternative. LNE died at 39.
